Give us something.
The book suggests that I recap some of the best presents I have ever received. The examples given portrayed gifts that were not only heartfelt, but also quite personal, and in both instances, homemade. Well, I have to confess, maybe I’m just a superficial kind of girl, but the most memorable gifts popping into my head are certainly not of the DIY variety.
- A laptop. For my 18th birthday, Daniel took me out, and while we were at Radio Shack, he let me pick out a 15″ Compaq laptop and external cd burning drive (yeah, those were the days, huh?)! I wound up trading in the laptop (overheating issues) for a desktop system a month later, and it served me faithfully until I upgraded a few months before I turned 21. Having a laptop was very exciting, especially since prior to that I was sharing a behemoth Gateway desktop PC with my mom and brothers. Also, the sheer monetary value of such a present was also quite something. I’m still so grateful to Daniel for that kind of birthday present!
- A pullover. In ninth grade I was in a silly anti-coat phase, and so I froze my ass off on the 0.4 mile walk up to the bus stop, the ten minute wait, and then the 0.4 walk back home in the afternoon. For Christmas my mom gave me a wooly feeling/looking (it was synthetic) pullover from Boscov’s. It was a men’s pullover, but it was a cream color, with small leather pull tabs on the zippers, and it was large enough for me to huddle inside of both outside and during class.
- A velour blanket. That same Christmas, my grandmother gave me a deep purple velour blanket for my bed. I know, it’s just a blanket, but it was a very high end one, and it was oh-so-comfortable. She knew how much I wanted one (after thoroughly enjoying the one she kept on the bed in the guest bedroom in their house), so she made sure I got one for Christmas.
I still have it. It has a hole in it now, but I refuse to part with it. - A diamond necklace. Aside from my engagement ring, I didn’t have anything with diamonds… until Christmas of 2006. Daniel presented me with a gorgeous sterling silver & diamond heart pendant necklace. It’s small, delicate, not too flashy, not made of gold (I don’t like gold, heh), and most importantly… features diamonds! What can I say… diamonds are a girl’s best friend. ;)
- A Lensbaby. This past Christmas my friend Jason gave me a Lensbaby Muse. I know, it’s “just” a lens, but that’s a pretty expensive gift from a friend. Also, I was (and still am) quite touched at how much he pays attention to the interests I have. He knew that it would be a perfect Christmas present.

Your posts are making me want to buy that book. I like this post and I remember most of them. They are definitely some fantastic presents!
