Yesterday was a lot of fun, even though I was a) tired and b) feeling pretty lost without my cell phone (pathetic, I know). My mom drove, so all I had to do was make sure Alyssa and Ryan were comfortable and entertained for the duration of the 67.4 mile car ride. We left by 11:30am, stopped for gas, picked up my thirteen year old brother, stopped for a water dish and potty break (me, of course. I feel like I have to pee more often than I don’t!), and made it to the meetup a little after 2pm.
Last time it was just my mother, her dog, Leah and I. This time it was my mother, my brother, Alyssa and Ryan, Leah and myself. I wasn’t sure how Ryan would be, but I figured it couldn’t be too disastrous, since the entire outdoor field is fenced in with a chain link fence that is at least eight feet tall. When we got there, Alyssa ran headlong in a pileup of Pugs, and Ryan started laughing and running along the perimeter of the yard. Two Pugs started chasing after him, which made him shriek and laugh harder. He really had a great time. Alyssa did too. They both played with a lot of the Pugs that were there, both with and without dog toys, Ryan plopped down on a blanket and started flirting with two girls around my age, and Alyssa was being quite charming and preening away for anyone who talked to her.
As far as Leah, she still hung with me for most of the time, though she did venture away from me a few times to sniff at and run around with a few of the Pugs who came over to check her out. She lets people pet her, though she’s rather timid about it all. I’m hoping that by taking her at least once a month to these meetups, she’ll be a little more outgoing with other people and with other dogs.
After the meetup ended (it ended sooner this time. Pug owners are apparently discouraged by mostly cloudy afternoons with temps in the low 60’s? Personally, I loved the temperature… it was a nice change from the blazing sunshine and 75 degree temps from the last meetup. Plus, the Pugs themselves seemed to enjoy the cooler weather, and were a lot more energetic!), the five of us went to Nifty Fifty’s for a quick dinner. We then took my brother back to his school, and then my mom brought us home. Alyssa and Ryan were wiped out, and went to bed before 8:30pm without a single protest.
As for me, I stayed up to do some work, process photos from the meetup and catch up on emails, but not long after Dan got home we both went to bed.
And now here I am, sitting in the waiting room at the dentist office, waiting for Dan. We got here about an hour and a half ago, so I’m assuming it won’t be too much longer until he’s ready to go. I hope he’s doing okay. I hate going to the dentist, and I can’t imagine that wisdom teeth yankage + the repair of five cavities and a chipped tooth would be very pleasant. I wonder if they put him out?
