Ryan was in a weird mood tonight. After he woke up from his nap, I took him, Alyssa, my mom and myself out for dinner. We went to Applebee’s. Normally Ryan loves Applebee’s. He is also independent — wanting to walk, not always wanting to hold my hand, wanting to carry his own toys, etc. Not tonight. He wrestled free of my mom and made a beeline for me. He insisted on being carried inside (have I mentioned that he is over 40 lbs.? And quite heavy? And my back is still hurting?). There, he stayed right with me, hugging my leg, burying his face in my lap or against my side when we were sitting and waiting for a table. Then, we get the table, and he throws a mini-fit before we even sit down.
Fifteen minutes later our meals arrive about five seconds after our appetizer does, and I race to eat my food as fast as possible because Ryan doesn’t want his hot dog, french fries, applesauce, toys or crayons. Instead he just wants to go, and go NOW. And until we GO NOW GO NOW GO NOW he continues to whine and cry. This is after throwing a sobbing fit because he thought my car was gone. He couldn’t see it from where we were sitting, and he wouldn’t calm down until I walked him out to the parking lot (before taking a bite of my hot, still-steaming, delicious smelling dinner) and showed him where my car was at.
A few bites into my dinner and I gave up… Ryan was just in one of those moods. He was not happy to be in Applebee’s, he was not happy about not being able to see my car, and he just wanted to GO. So I wolfed part of my food, threw the rest in a box, rushed the server to get the check and take my card and bring back the receipts, and then hustled him out the door.
And Ryan, little shit that he often is, was smiling on our way out of the restaurant, and even told the hostess, “Bye!” and, “Have fun!”.
*sigh*

I literally LOLed at the end.
argh you poor thing!
That is soo funny. He soo has you wrapped around his little finger and he knows it.
Maybe he didn’t finish his nap? The happiness at the end is kinda funny, though I’m sure it wasn’t at the time!
I am sorry.
Well that was one eventful dinner then, I’m sorry he was being like that, but I have to admit that I LOLed at the end too. He knows just what to do to get his way.
Wow, I know how you feel. My daughter has ADHD and it was always hard taking her out, she’d cry and scream because she hated to sit still. I feel you though.
Sydney has ADHD and she’s always too happy to be out and seeing/feeling/talking at everything she can. She’s mostly good in restaurants, and whines to eat anywhere but home. That whole thing seemed to get better with age. At like 2 she pulled the same stunt Ryan did to get her way. We did exactly what Jenn did, until it became a habit and then we just grinned and bared it and threw the shitty looks right back at everyone in the joint until she figured out we weren’t playing anymore.
He probably just was in a mood or didn’t have enough of a nap!!!! But you have to love that grin and the whole Have Fun! comment!
P.S. Jenn
Sydney was weighed today at the doctor. She’s 44.2 lbs. She’s 6 and a half. I FEEL for you having to carry him!!!! She’s just too heavy for me already!
