Getting my domestic on

Dan and I got home around 3am on Saturday morning. I wanted to drag my very tired self off to bed, but the living room was cluttered, the kitchen was a mess, and I could smell the cats’ litter box from the other end of the hallway. So, I went into a pre-party cleaning spree, which included cat litter scooping, dishwasher loading and kitchen floor mopping, and then collapsed into bed sometime around 5am.

Back up by 11am, and I hit the floor running: cleaned up the bedroom, showered, then vacuumed the living room thoroughly and steam cleaned it. Twice. I also vacuumed the kids’ bedrooms, and steam cleaned Ryan’s carpet. I cleaned the bathrooms, Windexed the glass doors on the hutch, and changed the sheets on all of the beds. Finally I scooped the cat litter again (when you have four cats it’s something that you definitely need to do at least once a day), emptied out the trash from the bathrooms and Ryan’s bedroom (I am seriously praying that he is out of diapers before Christmas!), and then took another shower.
Then it was out to a local hair salon to request a refund (my mother took her yesterday for a simple trim, and they totally butchered her adorable pixie cut and gave her BANGS, argh) and to Target for a helium tank, then to the grocery store to pick up Ryan’s birthday cake and the party platter we’re serving for his party, as well as some food. I was in such a weary daze at that point that I barely blinked when I checked out with over $110 worth of groceries. Now I’m wondering though… how the heck did it add up so fast?

Got home by 5:15pm, tossed the kids Lunchables and lemon water ice, and then set about putting groceries away. Danielle and Matt arrived promptly at 6:00pm, we chatted for a bit, had ravioli for dinner at 7:00pm, and by 8:00pm I reached my tolerance of kid whining and squealing and started getting them ready for bed.

Now it’s just about midnight, and I am absolutely drained. I want to go to bed early tonight, and will hopefully do so. Ryan’s birthday party doesn’t start until 3:00pm, but Danielle, Matt, most likely my mother, and myself and the kids are going swimming from 12-2. We’ll have just enough time when we get back to shower and dress, and then everyone should start arriving!

  1. Good luck with everything! :)

As for the hairdresser (and what I’m assuming is Alyssa’s hair…?), ugh, I can see why you are unimpressed. I have had a bad experience there too. My hair got BURNT. On the day of my senior school ball. Yup. I was not too happy, so I agree about going back to complain. :)

  2. Aww I hope you enjoy the party and then I hope you get some sleep!!
