The birthday/swim party was moved indoors on account of rain (I woke up and thought the atmosphere was exploding; the rain and thunder were THAT loud!), so I told my sister-in-law that we wouldn’t be able to come. Drive almost two hours each way to coop up Ryan with 30+ strangers inside a house? He’d flip his lid, and we’d have to leave before he screamed and rocked the place down. I felt bad for Alyssa, but she soon forgot all about it when I reminded her of our original plans for Sunday — a girls’ afternoon out. I planned on taking her to Toys ‘r Us to let her pick out a Barbie (her very first!), and then to Friendly’s for ice cream. Well, the plans were modified slightly, with Ryan and then Dan deciding to come with us.
Alyssa was definitely like a kid in a candy store, flitting from one toy to the next. She finally settled on a horse and a “plain” Barbie. By “plain” I mean it was only $6.99, since it was just the Barbie, not Barbie + a gazillion tiny accessories that Leah would eat or I would wind up sucking up in the vacuum cleaner.
While I corralled Alyssa, Dan went with Ryan, and they soon came back with a large alphabet puzzle* that Ryan saw and swooned over. Dan said that Ryan was all, “Ooh! Wow, cool!” when he saw it, and picked it up without hesitation and trotted off to find me.
*Note to self: unless you enjoy Ryan’s blood curdling shrieks, do NOT touch the letters he has carefully lined up in one long row along the edge of the coffee table.
All Crayola crayons, colored pencils, markers and paints were buy-one-get-one-free, so we picked up two 10 piece sets of paints, and a package of Imaginarium brushes, checked out, and then packed the kids and $60 worth of loot in the car and came back home. Alyssa spent the rest of the evening playing with her Barbie, while Ryan played with his letters. Before I knew it, it was time to make dinner, and then give the kids a bath, and then read a story, and then put them to bed…
…And now here I am, sitting on the sofa at 10:35pm, laptop in my lap, with plenty to do, but no energy to start on anything. Grrr. I hate how drowsy I feel around 4:00-5:00 in the evening, and then again between 9:00-10:00 at night. I know I’ll perk up, but until I do I have about as much energy as a slug.

Aw, so sorry to hear about the party being canceled ): – but, that’s good a fun day at the toy store made up for it! (:

Aww, her first Barbie! Ryan seemed content with his selection as well.
Regarding energy, I get that way as well. No matter what time I wake up, I get tired around 5-6pm, which is when James comes home/dinner is made and eaten/etc…basically when too much is going on to think about napping. Then, when it’s time for him to go to bed, I’m wide awake and couldn’t sleep if my life depended on it!

I guess she’s really not a barbie girl.

Maybe that’s just a boy things, my nephew will line up all of his little hot wheel cars in a row so that it looks like so: / / / / I touched one about to play with him with the cars and it was like the devil came out.
That is so cute. I’m glad you had a good time and Alyssa and Ryan got some cool toys. I hope you get more energy soon!
