Here’s to whoppers and love

Dan texted me last night, asking me to guess who he ran into. He seemed excited, but I really had no idea, so after a few half-hearted guesses, he responded with “Jill and Patrick!”

We worked with Jill and Patrick at Burger King. It was the summer of 2000 — the summer when Dan and I met at BK, and the four of us were all closers. We worked together a lot. Jill and I would usually switch off with closing the dining room and specialty and whopper boards, and Dan and Patrick usually did the fryers, the broiler and the dishes. Jill and Patrick would often give me a ride home, since I was on the way to where they lived.

Then Dan and I started really talking to one another, and flirting a bit, and when we weren’t at work we were talking online, and even on the phone a few times. Every night at work Jill would ask me how things were going with Dan and I, if he had asked me out yet, if I had told him I liked him yet, etc. But I was a bit shy and unsure, so I hadn’t yet made the first move (I did a few weeks later, via a novel-length email that confessed my feelings and attraction to Dan. He responded with a one sentence email, saying we’d talk later since he had to work that night. LONGEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE, EVER.). Jill said it was obvious that he liked me, and she would often pull Patrick aside to get his opinion on the whole situation. He agreed, of course. The two of us them would tease both of us (individually and when we were hanging around each other) and tell us to just get together already.

It became really obvious on the night that Jill and Patrick offered me a ride home, and Dan interrupted to say that he would take me home. Patrick knew where this was going, of course, but he argued that I was on the way for them (true), but out of the way for Dan (also true — taking me home took him about six miles out of the way). Dan kept insisting, and I finally agreed (as much as I liked him, I didn’t really know him, so I initially hesitated at accepting a ride from him). Jill and Patrick were all, “I told you so!” to me and teasing me about Dan liking me, and it wasn’t long after that when I sent the novel-length email to Dan, he left me hanging for the evening, and then came online and we talked, I got asked out for our first date (August 16th, 2000), and we were officially a couple. ♥

And here we are, over nine years later, still together and more in love than ever. We have so much together, I am truly happy with Dan and cannot imagine not being with him.

So here’s to Jill and Patrick, for doing their part in urging us together. We really need to look them up and take them out for drinks!

And here’s to the home of the whopper — if it weren’t for my job there, I probably would never met Daniel, and I wouldn’t know the happiness, love, passion and contentment that I have with him.

Haha, this picture makes me laugh. These were the good old days. I was only 15 in the year 2000! I am trying to figure out who the guy is standing behind you, I can’t remember back that far!
