Let there be cookies

My mom has been begging me to make shortbread cookies, and of course Dan was all over that when he heard me talk about getting butter and such, so I whipped up a double batch this afternoon. I got the ingredients together and laid out the cookies on trays, and then Alyssa and Ryan took over with the decorating. A million or so of those awesome sprinkles I have wound up all over the kitchen, but the kids had fun, so that’s what really matters, right? Besides, that’s why I have a dog! ;)

There are approximately four dozen or so cookies in my kitchen, and I don’t have a desire to touch a single one. On the contrary, blah. Seeing all that butter and being able to smell it makes my stomach churn at thought of ingesting any of it. I guess really focusing on what I’m eating and how much I’m eating has really helped with that. I’m no longer getting the massive cravings for things that I used to. Oh, and as of today I’m 38.6 lbs. down. Another, oh, 100 or so to go? Haha.

The kidlets are going to bed very soon, and I can’t wait, because I have some writing assignments waiting for me. Thanks to Kecia’s suggestion I’m now a writer at Demand Studios. Several weeks ago I wouldn’t have even dreamed of spreading myself any thinner in terms of work sources, but now that I’ve hit a lull with one of my clients (the one that usually provides the most work in terms of $, of course!), I’m on the lookout. I hit this same lull around the same time two years ago, and without getting into much detail, let me just say that it really caused some craptacular financial issues right around the holidays and into the early spring (and the $300 water heater replacement cost in November ’07 certainly didn’t help things). So I am definitely NOT letting that happen again! I’m making damn sure that I’m able to fill in the blanks with work from DS and TextBroker.

That’s the thing with freelancing. The work is spontaneous, which is good. But like I said, the work is spontaneous, which is also bad, particularly when it just spontaneously drops out of sight!

Cookies sound yummy, but oh so bad.

The site looks interesting. I think I will go check it out. Freelancing is not easy at all… it takes a lot of work.

  2. I’m going to check those out. I’m gearing up to blog again and last year I bought all the presents for Christmas. This year would be nice to do the same thing. I hate to fall into a hole because of the Christmas crunch!

  3. Oh my gosh cookies and baking make me so happy. It’s almost bedtime and now I have this urge to bake cookies, darn it Jenn!! Good luck with the new freelance writing site!!

Jenn! I just stumbled across you on Twitter which led me to here… I used to be on that forum that you frequented in 2001, I can’t remember the name! But it was full of teenagers and I was probably really annoying haha… gosh I can’t really remember anyone from there except your name jogged my memory. Do you still keep in contact with anyone else from back in the day from those forums?

Awesome to see you are still with your man and you have 2 lovely kidlets, and are married! Fun times =)

I used to love baking with my mum when I was younger, and it looks like your kids had fun too! Were you finding sprinkles in their hair for hours after? Apparently I used to get them everywhere, lmao.

I understand what you mean about not wanting to eat the cookies, no one else seems to understand it when I tell them though! I’ve been on a diet and now I’m maintaining my current weight, and knowing what’s in them and what they could do to me makes me just not want them. At first beating the cravings was really hard, but now I think ‘what was the big deal?’.

Good luck with the new freelance work, and well done on the weight loss so far :)

  6. Alyssa and Ryan look like they are having a great time decorating these cookies! You are much more disciplined that I- last week during our cupcake baking session, I could not help but eat one or two of them.

Keep up the awesome job on the weight loss front! So incredibly proud of you, as I know it’s not an easy feat to accomplish. Also, good luck on your new free lance jobs!

I’m with Andrea, those cupcakes look gorgeous. :)

I absolutely always make sure that plastic piece is under her arms while in the car. Both pictures we had just put her in for the moment, first before leaving the hospital and the other we were at the real estate agent’s office. :)

Your posts seriously make me wish I had kids. >_<' I mean, I have my furbabies, but baking with them would result in a hairy mess, literally.

The cupcakesies look gorgeous, but the # of calories in them is frightening! o_O' My mom never baked with me. She once baked with my sister, she was making… uh, munkki. This Mayday sort of ball thingy, like a sweet dumpling, that you sink into boiling water and then sugar? Anyway, she was holding my sister in her lap when she was doing the boiling water thing and some of the water splashed on my sister and burned her knees, which is why mom never ever baked with anyone else in the family.

(The minor upside is, my sister learned to walk pretty fast after that.)

But yeah, I've missed out on the fun part of baking. :/ Can I borrow your sprogs so I can bake with them? :D

Plus, as usual, I think the blog eatered my comment. *sigh*

  11. I haven’t baked in soo long they look so yummy, I had the urge to this morning at 5:30 but I wasn’t willing to get out of my warm bed to do it.

I just picked up some Halloween sprinkles last night, but I’m going to be making cupcakes rather than cookies. Ryan and Alyssa love helping out in the kitchen…I hope my kids enjoy it as well.

Glad to hear you are liking Demand Studios. I’ve been with them since April, and they have been my primary source of income since. It’s so easy to get so much work with them, but it can sometimes be frustrating if you have to deal with picky editors. The weekly pay and rate per article make it worth it though!
