Or, you can use an “all in one” type site that lists adoptable pets by breed and region. There are several big ones out there, but there is also a new one on the market: Petango.com. A Petango.com you can adopt a pet. Not directly, of course, but via the website, you can search for cats, dogs and other pets in your area. Search by city and state or zip code, and choose the maximum number of miles you’re willing to travel (10, 35, 100, unlimited). The resulting list includes photos (if applicable), and whatever details that have been supplied by the shelter or agency that is housing the animal.
You can also search by shelter, which is handy if you want to see what your local shelter has. I’ve found that even those shelters that have websites sometimes have additional animals listed with pet finder type sites.
