I want the old me back. Not the pre-surgery, 64 lbs. heavier me, but the me I’m familiar with. Physical healing is going well, though I still can’t lift over ten pounds. But I’m so unfamiliar with my insides. I don’t know if I’m hungry, full or just achy. Apparently I’ve been under-eating (how’s that for irony?), so healing is slower, and I’m also battling dizziness, vertigo and a bit of nausea. I’m trying to eat more and have 5-6 small meals instead of three bigger ones. But it’s hard to eat when I’m not hungry and when I don’t know how much to eat. Not to mention being afraid every time I try something new (I’ve progressed to purees and some limited soft foods).
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not regretting my surgery, and I’m not miserable all of the time. But on top of the physical recovery I’m just so uncomfortable and unfamiliar with my body right now. I’ll be honest: the adjustment hasn’t been easy.
(Thank you for reading this yet-another-bout-of-vertigo induced whine fest.)

are you allowed any sugar at all? i really think you were right the other day when you tweeted (twittered?) that you thought maybe you were feeling weird because of the lack of sugar.. maybe if you get a little sugar in your body it will help? meh i’m not very familiar with this so i’m not sure.. you might want to check your blood sugar though.. it might be low which can cause that sort of feeling.
And to think the clinics who talk about this kind of surgery usually promise a speedy recovery and minimal discomfort >.<
I hope you feel better soon, it must be so awkward to not know your own body o.O;;
Just stick with it, if you can get some nutritional drinks like ensure, drink them and eat. Things will get better.
Im sure thats got to be a hard adjustment. My friend Jackie just had this same surgery done a few months ago.. and shes lost 100 lbs or so. She looks fantastic!!! and feels so much better now. But I am sure she 2 went thru the adjustment period. Hang in there! Im sure it will all balance out soon enough.
I agree with Nimil on the sugar comment. I can imagine how terrible things must have been, having post-op pains plus vertigo definitely doesn’t sound fun. My mother suffers from vertigo and we still don’t know what she can do to make it better, so I have little advice to offer. Just hope you recover as soon as possible!
Well when you think about it, you’ve done something completely unnatural to your body. I mean, the organs are hooked up a certain way for a reason. So it makes sense that it’s going to be a HUGE adjustment to make getting used to your body working in a new way, and relearning new eating habits and so on.
