The great Christmas tree debate

Every year we go through a debate on what colors we’ll use for the Christmas tree. Dan and I have been together for nine years, but we didn’t bother to decorate for Christmas until we had an actual small house to live in, as opposed to an efficiency apartment. That year (2004) and the following two years we just used the general collection of Christmas tree ornaments we had amassed from my mother, the dollar store and Walmart.

Two years ago we decided to be a little more specific with colors and styles, and settled on red and gold:

Last year I decided to finally have a gorgeous girly themed tree, and with Dan’s consent (or resignation, depending on how you look at it), decorated our tree in pink, purple and gold:

This year we’re going for blue (royal blue, turquoise) and silver. We had some silver ornaments already, and after Christmas last year I picked up a bunch of blue themed ornaments when Target and K-Mart reduced them by 50% and 75%. I just need to pick up a silver tree skirt and tree topper (Target didn’t have anything, so I’m going to try my luck at K-Mart), and we’ll be good to go. We plan on decorating this weekend. :)

P.S. I’m participating in NaBloPoMo for the month of December, since I missed the boat in November. Wish me luck!

Gorgeous trees! Can’t wait to see what the blue themed one will look like. I’ve always loved blue. We had blue colored every other year or so

Jeremy is so frugal when it comes to thinks like this. He got upset with me last year when I bought some red and silver bulbs because we already had some blue and silver ones. I plan to make a trip to Walmart though, because I want some hot pink and lime green mini-bulbs to go on the tree this year. THey are like 2.50 so he can’t bitch lol.

Aww! This year, Sean and I decided to have a “well dressed” (aka non-hodge-podge) Christmas tree in our dining room and then the hodge-podge one in the living room and we picked teal & silver, too!

We have a royal blue and silver christmas tree this year! I know how much you hate WalMart, but I got a really cute silver star from there for pretty cheap for the top of my tree. It looks so good! And it’s LED lights, so they won’t go out :D They also have a lot of pretty sparkly ornaments for cheap that are — get this — SHATTERPROOF. They’re made of plastic, but look just like the glass ornaments! A great thing to have when you have animals and small, curious children, lol.

That’s our problem. We have no theme, so the tree looks a mess. Red, blue, & silver ornaments and not many fill the tree since we know little one may pull them down. Maybe it’s the multicolored lights. I’m trying to fix it. It looks like white lights work best. Maybe some ribbon will help.

I wish I still had the pics of my decorating. :) When I was in high school I decorated our house all in red & white from the tree right down to the railing on the stairs. :) My tree (if I’d been in my apartment still) would have been blue & gold this year. :(

Is your tree a fresh tree? I believe this year we are going to do heirloom ornaments, however I am pondering the decorating for the individual rooms, any suggestions?

Even when my family had trees, we never really did themes. We didn’t even DO a tree last year, haha. Yours are really pretty though!

Those are all such beautiful trees! You guys really do a wonderful job. What with blue being my all-time favorite color…I think I want to see the pics of this new tree! :D Interesting enough, my mom had the lap band surgery done the 12th of november….she had a fever for a few days, and called to say she lost like 20 some pounds the first week. Not sure. It’s been a while, so the facts might be wrong. Anyways….I’m really happy for both of you :D You guys are doing great :D

Your tree looks so nice. I don’t even bother decorating anymore and I’m not even sure I’m doing cards this year. I hope you’re doing well and I really like the snow effect on this layout!
