Seafood, yummy!

I love seafood. Not all kinds of seafood, but bring on shrimp, most types of fish and crab cakes, and I’m all over it (on a related note, I have had shrimp and talapia since surgery and I’m fine with both!). Then there’s this crab, shrimp and cheese fondue that Red Lobster has… Anyway! I’ve been pregnant twice, obviously, and I enjoyed seafood during both pregnancies. There’s a myth that seafood is dangerous to pregnant women and their unborn babies. I say myth because it isn’t true… at least, not entirely. Fish that is high in mercury is what pregnant women need to stay away from. Other types of seafood? Perfectly fine for you (so long as it is cooked thoroughly!).

According to a study published on healthytuna.com, not consuming seafood during pregnancy could lead to, or at least increase the risk of, depression. Fish is good for heart disease, for brains and for minds — why do you think doctors promote eating it?

So bring on the healthy tuna. Or if tuna isn’t your thing (I know it isn’t mine… I’ll only eat it if it’s in this spiffy tuna noodle casserole my mom used to make when I was a kid), how about some shrimp, crab, lobster, clams or standard fish sticks?
