The little engine that keeps tripping me up

Have I mentioned Ryan’s love for his new train set? He brings it with him everywhere. As I type this he is building the train track around the base of my desk chair. Last night it was on the kitchen table, and yesterday afternoon it was on the kitchen floor, then around my washer and dryer.

I’m not seriously complaining, however, because Ryan is so picky with toys and doesn’t usually “play” with things. So when he does, you better believe I’m right there encouraging the play! I’m so desperate to get him to play with toys instead of wandering around or rocking that if we’re in a store and he expresses serious interest in a toy, nine times out of ten I’ll go ahead and buy it. But it gets worse… I just spent $34 on eBay for a 2002ish McDonald’s restaurant playset. I went searching for it after seeing Ryan make a beeline for one that Alyssa’s preschool teacher has in her classroom. I can’t wait until it gets here! Ryan is going to go nuts when he sees it!

Yesterday was my youngest brother’s 12th birthday. We’re seeing him and my fourteen year old brother later this afternoon. My mom baked him this giant cupcake cake, and we both have gifts for him. I can’t believe he’s twelve years old. Good god, I remember coming home from high school and rocking him with one arm and reading homework assignments with the other! My baby brothers are definitely not babies anymore…

So, what’s everyone up to this week? Anyone else still having trouble shaking that Christmas hangover? I know I am! :P

  1. I understand your pain. My little one got a train set for xmas too and I keep stepping on the pieces as they are left all over the house. But he loves it so there isn’t much that I can do.

  2. I hope your brother has a great 12th birthday, and that Ryan enjoys the McDonald’s Restaurant playset!!!! I didn’t have a Xmas sadly but right now I am up to creating a picture depicting my year right before the New Years, and I am trying to a find a really good New Years survey to pass the time. How are you going to spend your New years?

  3. Man oh man christmas just flew by. I wish I could rewind last week and do it all over. Maybe try and enjoy it instead of hoping it would hurry up! lol

Awww. :) It’s hard when kids aren’t interested in toys (I wasn’t either, books were more my thing, although it took my family years to figure that out) because you don’t know what to get for them or what to do. I’m glad that Ryan’s finally gaining an interest in things. :) Maybe its because he’s finally at an age that has “cool” enough toys. ;) (Heaven knows I wish I had HALF the toys they have now, maybe I’d have liked them more! LOL)
