Before my weight loss journey and subsequent gastric bypass surgery, whenever I would buy clothes I would simply grab the 26/28 and hoped it fit, and then grab the 30/32 in case it didn’t. I almost never ordered clothes online, unless they were from Fashion Bug or Lane Bryant, because I never knew what to expect as far as sizing differences. It’s a well-known fact that a 26/28 in one brand may not fit the same as a 26/28 from another brand. And generally, the cheaper the clothing line or item, the smaller it would run.
Now I guesstimate based on what my current size is, and then I go down a size. In terms of jeans, since I have four pairs of 20s and a generous 18 that fit me now, if I get any more I’ll definitely get maybe one or two 18s, and then step down to a 16, since I will eventually be able to get into them. Tops are a little more tricky, because even though I have dropped 90 lbs., the girls are still quite ample. So depending on the size and cut of the top, it may or may not fit.
Tonight I was notified that I was the winner of an Alight giveaway at PJ Mommy, so I had to go onto the website, check out the sizing chart and figure out if I should get a 2X or a 1X. Their sizes seem to run on the smaller side, which means that I’d currently still be a 3X. So I went ahead and requested a 2X.
Who’d have thought that shopping for clothes after gastric bypass would still be such a pain?

Congratulations on the win! I used to love shopping for clothes online. I do love shopping for shoes online because I have smaller feet and all the cute shoes I find online are always in my size which is thrilling. However, clothes are becoming tricky because while it’s great you’re dropping pounds like crazy, I just keep on expanding. My partner laughed at me a few weeks ago when I took a pair of jeans out of the closet and tried shimmying, jumping up and down into them, laying down and trying to get them to button, all to no avail. I need new pants apparently because size 12′s don’t fit anymore. Time to get them 14′s and cross my fingers I don’t throw a fit in the fitting room trying to get into them.
Ha~ I hear ya girl. I think we are the same size! And I am having a ridiculously hard time finding a black shirt to wear! You’d think Lane Bryant would just stock massive amounts of black, but noooooooo.
Andwho..congrats on your weight loss! Keep up the good work!
Blessings-
