Right now I’m eating a bit of a chicken enchilada as fast as I dare (no need to tempt the stomach gods into causing an uprising, literally) while I wait for my mom to get here. She’s picking up Alyssa, Ryan and I, and then the four of us are going over to the hospital to visit my lover best friend, Jason. He has been having major low platelet issues for months, and after speaking to a few surgeons and doctors, opted to have his spleen removed. His splenectomy was yesterday morning. I was up at 4:45am so I could pick him up at 5:45am and get him over to the hospital by 6:00am. He was in surgery by 7:30am, and out by a little after 11. He was in recovery for about two hours, and then transferred to the ICU. His mom, dad, sister and I spent the seven or so hours waiting in a large waiting room (complete with free & reliable wifi! And comfy chairs! And a spiffy conference table! Can you tell that I spent the morning working? LOL), and then we were able to see him around 1:30pm. He was pretty groggy and grumpy from surgery, but I don’t think anyone is at their best after anesthesia and abdominal surgery.
I spoke to him last night and twice this morning, and he sounded a million times better. Of course, having water and a pain pump definitely helped with that! I would have gone to see him early this morning, except I was so tired from running on just 3.5 hours of sleep yesterday that I crashed last night at 9:00pm, and slept until 9:30am this morning. Then I had to wait until he was moved from the ICU to an actual room, since kids under 12 aren’t allowed in the ICU, and Dan is working today until 7:30pm.
Anyway, my mom just called my cell, so she’s either here or almost here. Bye!

I think you an Jason are lucky to have each other. You sound just like me and my best friend, things we would do for each other. Of course, only my husband makes jokes about her being my “wife” and it’s not in a bad way.
I’m shocked your mom is driving you over there with the kids. Hopefully she’s broadening her spectrum of relationships.
It’s great that you and Jason are so close – only a great and true friend would get up that early to take someone to the hospital.
My best friend has driven me to umpteen different things (surgeries, procedures, etc) and I have no idea what I’d do without her.
Ignore the people who say nasty things about your friendship w/ Jason. They’re just jealous!
I am glad that Jason is doing better. It is so nice that you are going out of your way to visit and take him to the hospital. You’re a good friend.
I want to wish Jason a very smooth recovery! I agree – you are a great friend to be there for him!
Let’s hope Jason is OK.
Chicken enchiladas sound amazzzingg right now. I am hungry blog commenting right now. I hope your friend Jason is okay and recovers quickly. Btw I replied to your comments on my blog. Your comments always mean a lot to me. <3
I think it’s so wonderful that you (and Dan) have found such a wonderful friendship with Jason. He’s in my thoughts for a speedy recovery!
