New phone, take two

This morning I woke up to a cell phone that froze up, restarted after five minutes of a gray screen, and then launched into the setup mode, as if it was a phone fresh from the production line. When I tried running through the setup mode, it kept freezing up, throwing up crash notifications from the few apps I had installed since the weekend, then froze up and restarted again with the same bullshit. I came to the conclusion that the phone was defective, as it has been randomly crashing and freezing since I purchased it last Sunday morning, called the local T-Mobile store to see if I could exchange it and how long it would take, and then ran over there to exchange it. Of course the sales rep couldn’t just exchange it, he had to run through the system’s troubleshooting process. I understand that, and I’m not bashing that. But I told him when I got there that I really couldn’t be there for more than a half hour, as I had to get back home to get my son from his school bus. He’s all, “Okay, no problem!” and goes right into the troubleshooting process, but stops every two minutes or so to answer the phone. The fifth time he did that I was like, “Is there someone else who could do that…? Please? When I called this morning you told me the exchange process would take ten minutes or less!” He let the phone ring after that, and finished up in less than five minutes, and Alyssa and I were on our way back home. We made it seven minutes before Ryan’s bus pulled up. Whew!

So here I go again with a brand new T-Mobile myTouch 3G. This one has been perfect right out of the box, so I’m crossing my fingers and hoping that the issues I experienced with the last phone were related to just that particular phone. A dud, I suppose. I really love this phone, by the way. I didn’t think I would acclimate so quickly to a touchscreen keyboard (I got lazy with my G1 and usually reverted to the slide-out keyboard), but I did. Of course, the awesome Swype has helped tremendously. Seriously, playing connect-the-dots by dragging my finger from letter to letter to spell out words? Fucking brilliant. It works like a charm 99.9999% of the time, too.

So now Dan wants to upgrade to the myTouch — in black, of course (I opted for white). No problem, right? He can sell his phone on eBay like I did mine, and since his doesn’t have any issues (my G1′s call button worked inconsistently, and Ryan chewed off the USB port cover), he’d be able to get a bit more for it. He could then turn around and use the money to buy the myTouch, and essentially not spend a dime on it. Whoo.

But then my mom asked if she could possibly use his upgrade, since her T-Mobile account isn’t eligible for one (and never will be, unless she pays off the charged-off back balance she owes on an older T-Mobile account). I told her I’d ask him — this is before he played with my myTouch and decided he wanted one too — and let her know. So I did, he said he wanted the myTouch, and we came up with the brilliant idea of her selling her iPhone (something she has been wanting to do because of its network inconsistencies), buying Dan’s G1 off of him for $150 (the cost to upgrade to the myTouch), and then she has a G1, which she has sorta-kinda-wanted, and he has his myTouch. This was all worked out on Tuesday, but she hasn’t bothered to get her ass over here so I can take pictures of her iPhone and accessories, and of course she hasn’t done it either. And I’m getting tired of waiting, and I know Dan is too. Grrrrrrr.

I haven’t blogged much this week, and I’ve been hiding from AIM and MSN a lot of the time. What can I say? I’ve thrown myself into my new job 100%. With what they’re paying me, and the cool perks that go along with the job, there’s no way I wouldn’t give it my all. And I’m still working on my freelancing stuff in between. The last few days have been brutal. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday… I was up until midnight working every single night, and then back up early the next morning. Oy. It won’t be so bad now though, now that I’ve gotten on top of a lot of stuff, and it’s just a matter of keeping up with things. :)

Thank you for all of the hair style suggestions. I think I’m going to go with Olivia Wilde’s look in House, since it’s nice and long and all layer-a-licious, and I’m going to use Special Effects to add some fun color. I’m thinking Cherry Bomb or Pimpin’ Purple. I haven’t quite decided which one yet. I’ll hopefully get my hair cut and styled tomorrow, and if I order the Special Effects tomorrow (or maybe buy it? Does Hot Topic (ugh, I cringe at the idea of going into that store) sell it?), I can hopefully get my hair colored early next week! Ahh I’m so excited!!! Now I just need to throw in a month’s worth of free Huntington Beach facials, and I’ll be all set!

The biggest reason why I do not use cellphones is the same reason why you returned yours ; not working … I just hate the fact where you just get used to the thing and next thing you know, it’s broken …

I hear you with being busy .. I am planning to go back to school as of April and it’s gonna be busy time for me .. I tell you …

I like the new hair .. it looks sexy and it will definitely suit you …

The MyTouch is a great choice. I had the opportunity to play with it myself. Sucks you had to exchange it due to errors. Darn sales representatives taking their time. Although I know how it is, since I also sell for T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T. LOL..

That will be a great look for you. I can’t wait to see how it looks. But, I thought you weren’t going to color your hair?

Hot Topic does sell Special Effects hair dye, but it will probably be around 12.99 a bottle. I always bought mine from http://www.funkyshop.com/se.html. Though, with the shipping it’s probably about the same. Just know that since you’re going to be applying the SE hair dye (which has has no ammonia in it) to hair that hasn’t been bleached before coloring, that it will not stay in except for a few washes.

http://www.amphigory.com/special_effects_hairdye.html has some wonderful photos from people who’ve had all the colors. Some on pre-treated hair, some without. :)

Also, If I was Dan I’d say screw it and sell the phone on e-bay. You guys shouldn’t have to wait around on someone elses schedule. Especially when you’re being the nice ones.

  4. Your mom can’t handle not having what you have, can she ?

Glad the new job is going and I look forward to seeing the new hair colour :)

  6. Thankfully my husband and I haven’t had any trouble out of our LG phones. Your new hair looks lovely!!! I just dyed my hair dark brown the other night. Can’t wait to see your new hair color, woot =) Have a great weekend!

  7. I had LG phones too – and never had problems with them!

  8. It sounds like it was just a dud. Robby and I didn’t have any issues with our phones when we got them and funnily enough I got the white and he got the black, lol.

I have to admit when I first started using Swype, I hated it because I didn’t understand it; but now I love it. Best thing EVER. ROFL.
