Comfort food

Comfort food has a place in everyone’s lives. And for different people, comfort food can be different things. For me, for example, comfort food is a bowl of cream of wheat, a nice helping of macaroni & cheese, pancakes (using my grandmother’s recipe, of course), and chicken pot pie. Some “quick foods” are comforting to me too. They include Cup ‘O Noodle soups and Dinty Moore chicken & dumplings. The latter is kind of a hand-me-down, something I remember my grandmother and mom making when I was kid, either for an “in a pinch” meal or snack, or to satisfy a late night craving. Dan also likes Dinty Moore’s stuff, particularly the beef stew, which to be honest is a surprise because Dan is so damn picky with everything.
My mom is also fond of Dinty Moore’s stews and chicken & dumpling meals — I can’t tell you how many times a quick lunch would consist of one of their varieties being served over some instant rice — and hormel chili, too. To this day she always has at least a few cans around in her kitchen!

Anyway, Dinty Moore has a lot more to offer than I realized. I’ve always thought of them as just carrying canned beef stew and chicken & dumplings, but they also have chicken and noodles, scalloped potatoes, turkey stew, southwest chicken, and even meatball stew! Their website, hormelfoods.com, even offers recipes, and not all of them require any Dinty Moore specific products. If you’re like me and struggle to come up with ideas, then you’ll love having delicious, hearty recipes just a mouse click or two away.
