So I had my endoscopic stricture fix appointment today. Only… there was no stricture to fix. I remember being half-awake, somewhere between the operating room and the recovery “bay” (their terminology, not mine), and asking — or at least I thought I asked. Maybe they just told me? (Those meds were fucking sweet! Not an insta-knockout, but definitely strong enough to lull me into a deep, not-even-the-end-of-the-world-could-wake-me sleep) — how it went. According to the doctor, my stomach pouch is fine — there is no stricture. So why am I vomiting so much, with no rhyme or reason? They think that perhaps I have a motility disorder. Normally it occurs in the esophagus, but it’s entirely possible for it to happen in the lower portion of the stomach pouch or even in the upper portion of the small intestine.
*sigh* I was really bummed to wake up to this news. And when I was ready to be discharged and the nurse went and got Dan (and my clothes, haha), I teared up a bit when I told him the news. Okay, maybe I did a little more than tear up… I’m such a crybaby at times.
But I said it before and I’ll say it again: no regrets. Even if I throw up every single day for the rest of my life, I don’t regret the surgery. And for the most part I keep liquids and protein shakes down, and I’ve never thrown up a vitamin, so it’s not as if I can’t get at least some nutrition in.
So what’s next? Well, I’m going to call my surgeon tomorrow to schedule my next follow-up appointment. I’ll talk with her and see what — if any — options are available.
Dan and I got home today around 4, and after watching an episode of House I fell asleep, and didn’t wake up until almost 7:30pm, when my fourteen year old brother called to talk to me. Dan and the kids had eaten pizza, courtesy of Jason, who came over sometime earlier with the pizza, and with the necessary ingredients to make an easy taco casserole (it’s absolutely delicious, by the way. And ground beef + cheese are both excellent sources of protein, and I kept down the two small portions I worked on eating slowly tonight, so yay!)
Right now it’s barely 11:30pm, and I am sooooooooooooo damn sleepy. I’m going to wrap up a few things as quickly as possible, and then go to bed!
P.S. Here’s a cool photo comparison. Left: me on the day of my gastric bypass surgery, 286.6 lbs. Right: me this morning, 221.4 lbs.

Wow, Jenn, you look so great even all sick in your hospital bed. I’m sorry about the stricture confusion; that sounds like such a bitch.
Anyway, I’m sending positive vibes your way. Good luck!
Aw man.
In a way that stinks that it wasn’t the stricture because now you have to deal with this for longer – but it’s also nice because the scope probably didn’t take as long to do.
I will say this – those meds are nice.
Granted mine wore off faster than yours probably did (I just had Versed but I was out cold) when I had my throat-scope done last year.
Well, that sucks. When I had my surgery I had similar problems. I was remembering this with the husband tonight after telling him your story. I threw up all the time, it eventually did stop. There was no rhyme or reason to it, I just did it.
You’ll get through it, or used to it as sad as that sounds. But you look effing fabulous!
That’s really rough about them not finding anything. Maybe with time things will get easier on you? That picture difference… wow. You look like a completely different person.
When my gf had her surgery, it was a good year or two before she really had a handle on it. The last few years, there was no throwing up or anything… and after a while, she could even handle carbonation in VERY small doses. So, there is a light at the end of the tunnel!!
Aw that sucks
but I must say you look amazing and I hope your doctors can figure it out soon
I hope you’ll be able to figure out what’s going on and you’ll be able to adapt to it. Beyond that, you look beautiful, and I think the benefits of having a healthier, longer life thanks to this weight loss will outweigh the suckiness of having to throw up every once in a while. Eventually you’ll be able to find a pattern to it and find a way to evade it. You’ll be okay
man, that really sucks jenn!!
Sorry to hear about that. You look amazing though!! You can really see the difference in the photos! I hope the doctors can figure it out soon!
Eek I’m sorry Jenn! I hope they can figure out something to help you or that it’ll go away on it’s own sooner rather than later.
Im sorry, I hope you find out whats wrong soon! Your doing so well!
FWIW: WOW, you look good!
Wow you can really see the difference in the photos, Jenn. Hope they manage to find out whats wrong fairly soon though, that must be horrible with all the sickyness
That recipe sounds sooo good! And new you picture looks great!
Wow Jenn you look awesome! You can definitely see the difference in your face. Keep at it! I hope that everything calms down for you regarding not keeping the food down.
Wow, that’s kinda shit about the whole stricture thing, but if it’s any constalation, you look really pretty in the newer pic, and you can see how much progress you’ve made since the surgery.
p.s. I love the colour of your hair!
Sorry to hear it wasn’t a stricture. In a way that’s a positive thing I guess but in another way it’s not. You know what I mean lol. I hope you start feeling better & the dumping eases up. You look fabulous !
YOu look so awesome. The pictures look like two different hot chicks.
My best friend had the same surg. She is a WHOLE new woman.
I always thought she was the most beautiful person I have ever met. Hope your are doing good. Chitty caht with ya soon.
I’m sorry about that.
That taco casserole sounds straight up scrumptious. I’m going to have to add it to our rotation. We’re big casserole and soup people, thanks so much for sharing.
I agree with Manda, you look like a completely different person. I wouldn’t recognize you from the picture on the right if I hadn’t followed up on your weight loss!
If it’s not a stricture, what’s causing all the vomiting? Is it just something that’ll eventually pass on its own?
You are doing amazing!!! Those bottom photos just show it incredibly! great job!
Jenn,
I know what you are going through. I had gastric bypass almost 3 years ago. Since then I have been through 12 surgeries trying to fix “issues”. I too have a motility issue and have been where you are. If you ever need to talk, email me.
You look good!!! Sorry on the news, not sure what that is but i am sure you will come out good in the end. Stay positive
