I’m starting to sleep a lot again, and my hair is once again coming out several strands at a time, which means that I’m slacking in the protein department. I know I am, now that I sit and think about it. But at the same time, when eating isn’t a priority to begin with (because the urge/desire is rarely there), it’s easy to forget about it entirely when you’re busy trying to squeeze 30+ hours worth of work & family time & household chore time into an 16-18 hour day. *sigh* To be honest, I have eaten like total crap for the past few weeks, and that needs to change. I like having energy and hair, dammit.
So I’m going to try my best to start off each day with a bowl of protein-laden cereal, or a protein shake. I even set up a food log in Google Docs to help me keep track of my food/protein consumption. I had a spreadsheet on my computer before, but it was a pain to use and keep updated because there wasn’t a way for me to sync it between my two computers. At least with the food log being in Google Docs I’ll be able to access it from any computer I might happen to be on.
Right now I have six ounces worth of it + three ounces of milk, which amounts to 57 grams of protein, provided I can get it all down and keep it all down. If I can, 57 grams of protein is a kick-ass start to the day, since my daily goal is 60 — the ideal goal being 80.
I finally have jenn.nu’s new layout up, which you should be able to see (if not, clear your cache). It’s been a work-in-progress for over a week now. Long gone are the days of throwing up a new layout every week, or even every month. Hah. Now I’m doing good to get a new one going every 2-3 months! I really should do like Dooce and some of the other “big” bloggers, and use the same layout all of the time, and just change the header images, fonts and colors as desired. But I get bored with the same thing, which is why I switch around with two column and three column layouts, large header areas and then large footer areas, etc.
Right now I have cereal to eat, this blog entry to finish, and then tons of email to get through, followed by tons of blogging. Most of my week is dedicated to Eden Fantasys and SEOwhat, and on the weekends I tackle everything else — paid blogging, paid tweets, private blogging for other clients, etc. Whew! It’s a hectic schedule, but it mostly works!

I like the new layout Jenn, however the font is difficult to read because it’s a light shade!
Lovin’ the new look!
I hope you are able to get your protein levels back up. I cannot imagine having to monitor as many things as you do, but that is why you’re the one losing all of this weight. You are looking amazing, Jenn.
I love the new layout Jenn!! I need to get more protein into my diet too.
Its a big struggle though. You look gorgeous Jenn!! I’m sure you will be able to get your protein levels back up.
Yay for making a food log! =) It must be so hard to ever find time to do anything if you’re working so much in a day! Just seems kind crazy, having so much work to do.
The font’s a little light though, I had to highlight the text in order to read it =/
Wow, the header is so cool : ) Very Hollywood!
Have you tried Bolthouse Farms Perfectly Protein? I love the Mocha Cappuccino drink they have- I could live off of it! It’s 12 grams for 8oz I think, and it tastes like a frappuccino. After taking meat out of my diet I really needed to make sure I was getting enough, and that’s the most delicious way I’ve found
It’s packed with other good things as well (calcium, magnesium, b vitamins).
I like the new layout but I’m not sure I’m a fan of the pink-orange combo. Think I would like it much more if it were green/blue-orange. But I definitely like the structure of it!
I’m lucky if I even eat once a day lately. I’ve been really bad about it and it’s been making me extremely tired and unmotivated. Been better today though and I got a lot of exercise in (which I’m about to blog about heh).
And thank you thank you for making the top of the header a link back home. I always wanted to click the J on the last layout and would have to remember it didn’t link back to home >_<
Loving the new layout, Jenn! but I agree the writing is a little too light. I was thinking that it was just my old eyes LOL
I hadn’t realised you’d changed layouts because I didn’t see this entry in Google Reader. It’s very very pretty. I love the orange, pink and black. Perfect colour scheme.
I’ve actually just started taking vitamins because I’m sick of crappy hair and feeling exhausted, I have to remember to be a healthy vegetarian I have to eat properly. Damn lack of iron.
Jenn,
Have your doctor check your vitamin levels. You may be Vitamin B12 deficient. I have the same problems and I have been on B12 shots once a month since 2006. My levels normal for 28 days then I need another shot. I can tell the difference. Just a thought. =)
My experience has been, for whatever reason, if I don’t change my layout periodically I lose interest and it gets harder to blog!
Love the new layout- keep up the good work!
First of all, I love the new layout. Very lovely, spring-like colors and I am loving that header. As minimalistic it is, it works!
Second of all, I think I may have stumbled onto something here. I used to sleep a lot. Like, a lot. But because of dental problems, I usually am in a ton of pain and my body shuts down. Now that that has been getting better, I still sleep a lot. Not as much as before, but a lot more than most. AND my hair is always falling out a few strands at a time. Maybe I don’t have enough protein! I don’t eat too much and am hardly ever hungry, which can be mistaken in my mental processes because I am also a smoker and so when I find myself smoking a lot, it’s usually because I’m hungry but my brain won’t tell me I’m hungry, it will tell me I need a cigarette. Definitely going to try to get more protein in my diet and see if that is what has been missing because I used to have super thick, awesomely gorgeous and healthy hair and now, well, it’s pretty thin and boring and although it looks just as healthy as it ever did, it has a tendency to keep coming out.
Thanks!
Spark (www.sparkpeople.com) has a really great food tracking too, it will automatically keep track of protein, carbs, etc. Good luck & feel better!
