Growth spurt

It’s like I blinked and Alyssa and Ryan suddenly aged by several years. I’m so used to referring to them as babies, toddlers, preschoolers, etc., that it blows my mind to realize that Alyssa is registered for kindergarten (as of yesterday!) and that Ryan is turning FOUR in two months.

They’re big. They’re leggy. They’re gangly. They have attitudes and preferences and personalities. They talk, they sing, they squeal, they shriek. They walk and run and jump and skip and hop. They swing on swings, slide down slides, roller skate (well, Alyssa does, anyway), ride on scooters and ride on bicycles.

The best part of kids getting older, besides getting to experience memorable and exciting milestones with them, is being able to regain some of your own independence. It’s nice to go outside with Alyssa and Ryan and not have to be on top of them every single moment like I did when they were younger. I can let Alyssa ride her bike without worrying about her falling or not knowing to stay out of the road. I can let Ryan play on our swing set and ride his scooter without worrying about him tripping or falling. They can get their own drinks. They can tell me what they want, what they need. They take their own bathroom breaks. In short, they’re getting more and more independent every single day, and I’m loving every bit of it!

  1. A very good point about the independence! :) They’re just a cute despite the growing heh

Yeah, but don’t you miss the a little of the non independent days and the overly adorableness of their cute pronunciations of words.
