After we signed the paperwork for our house, but before we moved in, Dan and I rushed to paint the bedrooms. Then we moved in, and in the three years and two months that have passed since then, we’ve made a variety of upgrades and improvements. We never finished painting, however, and my bland, boring kitchen and living room are really starting to wear on me. Also, Alyssa’s bedroom and Ryan’s bedroom both need to be re-painted, as Ryan’s head banging damaged the walls. We can’t just touch up those spots or paint those walls, as silly me didn’t bother to write down the name or product code of the colors used. So, full on re-painting is. The only questions that remain are what colors to use in the various rooms, and what brand? I want to pick a brand first, and then choose colors from that brand’s product line.

One brand I’ve honestly had my eye on, since I go to Home Depot every now and again, is Glidden. I haven’t used Glidden before, but I’ve heard good things about it. The selection of colors is impressive, and I like how easy the website makes it to search for potential colors. You can check out individual colors, palettes, or room color ideas and team colors — which are color palettes put together based on sports teams. You can virtually paint a room to get a good idea of how certain colors would look in your own home. You can also order paint testers in every color available — quite handy if you want to test out small swatches in your home before comitting to a new color.

At Glidden.com you can also check out the “Glidden Paint, Get Color, Give Color Giveaway” that started just after midnight on June 1st, 2010. The giveaway offered lucky winners two free paint testers, plus the opportunity for those winners to send two additional paint testers to friends. At this point I think supplies have been depleted, but you never know, the demand and interest in such giveaways may inspire Glidden to do another round! Also, you can pick up Glidden paint testers at any Home Depot! The testers include containers with brushes built right into the lids, and you get enough paint to get a good idea of what an entire redone room would look like. Also, these tessters can be kept around to touch up stained or damaged areas, without the hassle of buying an entire large can of paint!
