I was recently contacted to see if I would be interested in reviewing My Scent Essence. My Scent Essences are non-toxic, natural and biodegradable scented waxes that are formed into candles, beads, scent shakes, and other products.
What I like about My Scent Essences is that they are completely eco-friendly, made only from natural ingredients, with no synthetic solvents, dyes, or scents. Just as importantly, the dyes that are used in My Scent Essence waxes contain none of the ingredients that are found on California’s Prop 65 list of cancer-causing ingredients.
Anyway, in terms of waxes, My Scent Essences are available in dozens of scents. I was drawn to the ScentShakes, which are formed pieces of wax that can be placed together in a bowl or dish to be heated up. I was lucky enough to be able to try out Amber & Linen, Linen Filled Air, Beach Bathing, and Star Fruit & Mango. Can you tell that I love clean and tropical scents? Well, I do!
For a warmer, I opted for the lovely Star Stacked Clear Touch Aroma Lamp, as I think it goes well with our somewhat-random-yet-kind-of-matching decor. Besides looking quite pretty, the touch aroma lamp, as its name implies, turn on with just a touch of the base. It has three settings, with the brighter setting obviously putting off more light and heating the ScentShakes to a higher temperature at a faster rate.
The scents smell amazing, both in their solid form and in melted form. The scents are very true to the real thing, and when heated up are just strong enough to fragrant the room without being overpowering. The touch aroma lamp is a beautiful centerpiece for our coffee table, though I’ve also been a bit selfish and have set it up here on my computer desk on several occasions. Also worth noting: the lamp itself does not get very hot even when it has been on for a while, so it’s safe to accidentally touch or even pick up and (carefully!) move. The wax, when completely melted, is hot, and it will hurt if you spill it on yourself, but it isn’t so hot that it will actually leave a burn on your skin (and yes, I did accidentally spill some liquefied wax on myself one night).
The My Scent Essence touch aroma lamp and collection of ScentShakes have made a wonderful addition to our home. They add a nice aroma to the air without clashing with other scents or creating a cloying, clingy type of smell in the room, as other types of candles are often wont to do. It’s safe to keep around my children and my cats (thought scrubbing off dried wax can be a real pain), and with so many ScentShakes to choose from, it’ll be perfect to use year round! I’m already planning on picking up Sizzling Cinnamon and Very Vanilla for next fall and winter.
