I was recently contacted by Neutrogena to see if I would be interested in trying their newest sun protection product, Neutrogena UltraSheer Liquid Sunblock. Neutrogena UltraSheer Liquid Sunblock is available in a liquid form — its consistency is very similar to liquid foundation — in 55 and 70 SPFs. Like other Neutrogena sun protection products, UltraSheer contains Helioplex, which is a patented formula that provides even more protection against both UVA and UVB rays.
I was sent two full-sized bottles of Neutrogena UltraSheer Liquid Sunblock in 70 SPF to try out. The first thing I noticed when squeezing a bit of the sunscreen into my hands is how runny it is! It immediately pooled in the center of my hand, and it was incredibly easy to apply the sunscreen to my skin. The sunscreen glided on smoothly, and didn’t stick or leave a thick coating as some traditional sunscreens are wont to do. It absorbs quickly, without leaving behind a sticky or slippery residue. Best of all, only a thin layer is required for adequate protection.
I completely own up to the fact that for the first few uses, I applied Neutrogena UltraSheer Liquid Sunblock to myself only. Last year we had a bad experience with a spray-on form of Neutrogena sunscreen, and I didn’t want to put my kids at risk of sunburn this year, especially since our last few pool outings have been on blazingly sunny days. But after a few days of perfect protection, and usage on my skin while I was both in and out of the water, I decided to try it out on the kids as well. And the verdict is? It works perfectly!
At first I used Neutrogena UltraSheer Liquid Sunblock on my face only, as the product is heavily promoted for use alone or underneath sunscreen. But I’m now using it all over — face, neck, ears, chest, back, shoulders, arms, legs, etc. I have used it, Dan has used it, Alyssa and Ryan have used it, and I’ve even applied it to my brothers. It works perfectly for all of us, even on the days where we’re at the pool for four and five hours.
Bottom line? Neutrogena UltraSheer Liquid Sunblock is my new favorite sunscreen. It may be on the pricier side — about $12.99 for a bottle — but it’s well worth the cost. Its liquid consistency and lack of strong smell or residue makes it perfect to apply on not only myself, but on Alyssa and Ryan as well — who tend to squirm around when I’m putting sunscreen on them. With a much thinner consistency to work with, getting them lathered up doesn’t take nearly as long! But best of all, it works, and that’s what I’m really after in any choice of sun protection.
