What’s on your playlist?

Right now there are a few songs on my playlist that I just can’t seem to get enough of:

I like these and some other songs so much that I’ve given them a 5-star rating in iTunes, and created a “smart” playlist that will automatically add anything with five stars to it. I know, I know, I’m a total dork. What can I say? I like music. And when I got hooked on a particular song — or songs, in this instance — I’ll end up playing them to death until I get totally sick of them.

I need to get more interested in non-mainstream music. When Dan and I went to the Renaissance Faire in October 2008, we both were really into some of the Scottish music and chants that were performed live throughout the day. With our ten year “together” anniversary (August 16th, 2010) and sixth wedding anniversary (October 1st, 2010) coming up, I definitely want to get Dan something nice, interesting, and different than the usual gifts we give each other. I’ve been checking out musicscotland.com, and they definitely have a nice selection of Scottish music, Celtic music, and other unique, definitely-not-mainstream music. In addition to Music Scotland Celtic music, they also have bagpipe, fiddle and even harp music. How’s that for unique?

  1. I love Not Myself Tonight as well! I really can’t get enough of it, although I’m not too keen on Christina’s new image, it’s too Gaga-esque.

You should come over here to Scotland! Haha.
Although the ironic thing is that they probably played more traditional scottish music at that festival than they actually do in Scotland itself :P

  2. one of my good friends gave me a burnt copy of Christina’s new cd, it’s pretty good.. you should check out some of the rest of her new songs, I think you’d like them!

Rating your music quality wise is far from dorky, I’d say… it’s smart; especially if you’re a music lover!

If you liked the celtic music you heard at that festival, I think you might like Blackmore’s Night, they’re hard to classify.. but I think celtic folk pop (and a little rock here and there) would probably come close. :)

  4. @Jenn: I’m not sure. I’ve listened to one or two tracks on Spotify, and I got a bit bored. Although I will probably end up just picking it up in a couple of weeks anyway :P
I really love the new Miley Cyrus album too actually. It’s insanely catchy!

  5. @Thomas Doran: Very true! The only time I ever, ever hear ‘traditional’ Scottish music is at funerals or weddings when there’s a bagpiper.

  6. @Melissa: I know. I always find it funny how Candian people in particular have big Scottish festivals and Highland Games to try to have a taste of the Scottish culture, but we’re nothing like that, haha.
Or in films like “Maid of Honour”, where the groom’s parents live in a castle in Scotland, paricipate in Highland games and make whisky for a living, haha.

It’s certainly nice to see another Scottish blogger! :)
