From “What will people think?” to “I don’t give a crap”

I have been wearing shorts non-stop since last Tuesday (not just the originals over and over — I picked up three more pairs at Target). Once I wore them around for a while and realized that people really weren’t looking at my legs (or they are, but they’re doing it so stealthily that even my paranoid, self-conscious self hasn’t picked up on it), and that my legs aren’t nearly as heavy as they used to be (hello, they used to touch even at the knees!), I got over it.

And you know what? Shorts freaking rock. Especially the ones that are of the semi short-short variety (although I wouldn’t recommend them to be worn to a baby shower or another nice event). Shorts that stop just above the knee are awkward looking, the ones that are just a teensy bit shorter remind me of old lady shorts, and the below the knee ones are pretty much capris. Or shapris shorts + capris), as I like to call them.

So yes, Jenn is wearing shorts. And tank tops. But you’ll never ever see me in a two-piece! Not without some serious cosmetic surgery beforehand, anyway…

  1. Congrats! I’m going to be wearing my first pair of short shorts since I was a wee lass when we go to Busch Gardens at the end of the month. Along with wearing a bathing suit without a shirt (I always wore a shirt over my suit when I swam to hide my body) when we go to Water Country USA. Needless to say, I’m a little nerves. Anywho, continue rockin’ those shorts!

  2. I’m so proud of you. That is such an accomplishment. I imagine you feel so good about yourself. Like, I’ve said before, you really are motivation for myself. Do you exercise as well? I want to start going jogging or walking or something, but I haven’t made myself do it yet. I’ll pump myself up about and be like yeah I’m gonna do this, and then I never actually do it.

  3. I love all varieties of shorts. I have super short, bermuda, and capris. It’s all in what I want to wear on a particular day. Don’t worry what others think. If the adults in the general public want to be asswipes about your figure, fuck them. Also, shows how immature and superficial they are about those sort of things. We need to boost your confidence up more about your new and ever improving physical body attributes. Have you tried tankinis? Some of them.. the shirts cover all your tummy all the way to the bottom and I’ve seen some cute ones!

  4. As long as you feel comfortable than nothing (or no one) else matters.
