Ramblers Way is helping small towns

You know what I can’t stand? Walmart. I hate how big and sprawling the stores are, I hate how they take up practically one whole section of a town with their gigantic parking lots, and I hate how they treat their employees and their customers. I also hate how their super low prices — which come as a result of underpaying their employees and using cheap labor sources for their products — attracts what I will kindly refer to as “the element”. My local Walmart is so grungy and crappy. When they re-painted last year I joked that their efforts amounted to nothing more than slapping a coat of paint on a pile of poop. At the end of the day you’re still left with crap.

But more than anything, I hate how sprawling box stores like Walmart ruin small towns. While I love me some Target, there is something quite charming about local, family-owned stores and one-of-a-kind shops. Even where I live we’re not seeing as much of that anymore, and it makes me sad.

Fortunately, there are companies out there that try to do what they can to combat urban sprawl. Ramblers Way is one of those companies. Rambler’s Way, an American company that specializes in homegrown wool which is then turn into woolen apparel, is focusing on distressed small towns. Specifically, they are helping these small towns, which have been affected by urban sprawl, by opening up manufacturing facilities for Ramblers Way in them. These new facilities help to bring jobs to the town, and also promote products that are Made in America.

I wish more companies would step up to the plate and commit themselves to helping American towns. Too many companies outsource simply because it’s cheaper, but in the end the money saved doesn’t do anyone here in America any good.
