BlogHer, Day 1

Can I just say that BlogHer is fucking exhausting? Right now my boss and I are sitting on the sofa in our hotel suite, halfheartedly eating dinner, after being woken up by room service arriving. Yes, we fell asleep for a few minutes while waiting for our food to arrive. Something tells me we would have fallen asleep a lot sooner today, except that we were just go-go-go, so there was no time to get tired. But once we sat down, it was light’s out. But I guess that’s what running for 19 hours, sleeping for four and then running for another twelve will do to you. So anyway, while I’m awake and before I forget, here’s a summarized rundown of how my first experience with BlogHer has been so far.

August 5th, 2010 (Day 1)

7:00am – I wake up, take a shower, pack up my last minute stuff, and then sit down to purchase my Amtrak ticket, pay my mobile wifi bill and renew a few expired domains.

8:15am – Dan and I run out to the grocery store to pick up a few essentials and some meal items for his sister, who came over the night before to babysit on Thursday since I would be away and Dan had an office meeting and then an office party to go to.

9:30am – I dropped Dan off at work, then headed down the road to Target to pick up a few last minute essentials — power strip, vitamins calcium chews, contact lens solution.

11:00am – Dan and I arrive at the train station, I get my ticket, and at 11:18am promptly I kiss him goodbye and board the train.

12:30pm – I arrive in Philadelphia, drag myself and my luggage (handled rolling suitcase, large purse, and a tote bag) to the bathroom, then meet up with my boss. Together we purchase our train tickets to NYC, then board.

2:30pm – We arrive in New York City! We wander through the subway, then make it to street-level, head out and catch a taxi. Onwards to The Warrick!

3:00pm – We arrive at The Warwick, check in, squeal and coo over the lush corner suite and all of the room and the amazing king size bed and oh my god is that a telephone in the bathroom, and then unpack a bit.

4:00pm – Supplies for BlogHer arrive, and we help the guys with getting the van unloaded and get everything up into our hotel suite. We set about unpacking some of the stuff, including 50 dildos that we then set about our living room area (I’m sure we’ve given housekeeping some interesting stories to share).

9:00pm – After several ours of unpacking, situating, organizing, and a yummy late lunch/dinner and a cheese platter, we head over to The People’s Party. I don’t see anyone I recognize, but instead I’m introduced to The Bloggess, and we hang with the cool kids in a bathroom for a few hours, exchanging business cards and stories and enjoying drinks.

11:30pm – We wander a few blocks in search of food, and eventually round back to the hotel and find a cute little grocery store that turns out to be a huge grocery store. We grab some food, cheese, and popcorn, then drag our haul back to our hotel room.

2:30am – After eating, processing photos, doing a few work-related things (including the setting up and charging of several toys; again, I’m sure housekeeping loves us), we crash.

BlogHer, Day 2 will be coming soon!

Sounds like really good fun, hope to be there next year, if I can save the money for the flights ;)

  3. I am glad you’re having a great time. I can’t wait for next year’s BlogHer because I am saving up money to go!! I am also jealous that you met the Pioneer Woman & The Bloggess! Have fun and be sure to give housekeeping a few more stories to tell, lol.

Man, I am so out of the loop. I’m an hour’s train ride outside of NYC, if I had known about this, I totally would’ve scrapped the cash together to go. D:
