Yesterday Daniel and I celebrated our ten year anniversary by spending the day at an amusement park. We didn’t make it to our original destination, which was Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey. We were on our way, about five miles into the 100 or so mile trip, when I called my surgeon to discuss my gallbladder issues. I had a really bad attack on Saturday. It was so bad that I was getting ready to call my mom or Dan or Jason or someone and ask them to take me to the hospital. It lasted for two hours, the longest ever. :( Anyway, when I explained the symptoms and attacks to my surgeon’s assistant, she asked if I could come in at 11:00am for an appointment and diagnostic work. It was either 11:00am or several weeks from then. Of course I said yes, and we turned around and made the hour trip up to my surgeon’s office.

My surgeon wasn’t available for the appointment, but her assistant was. She felt around my abdomen, gave me a prescription for Percocet to use for any more attacks I might experience, and then scheduled me for an ultrasound to check for gallstones and inflammation at 4:00pm. If it weren’t for the fact that I had drank a 10 oz. protein shake earlier in the morning, I could have had the ultrasound right then and there.

So, what to do between 11:00am and 4:00pm? How about killing time at a local amusement park that is literally about five minutes down the road from the main hospital where my ultrasound was scheduled at? So off we went, and hung out there until about 3:00pm. We got in two roller coasters, the log flume and the swings before we had to walk back to the car and then head down the road to the hospital.

The good news is that I don’t have gallstones, and from the measurements they were able to take, I don’t have inflammation, either. But obviously these excruciatingly painful attacks are happening for a reason, so I’m back to the hospital on Thursday afternoon for a CT scan and a HIDA scan. Significant weight loss = great. The resulting crap-out the gallbladder often has = not so great.

After we left the hospital, we stopped by Pizza Hut for lunch (FYI, their nacho wing fries are very good!), and then we headed back to the amusement park. Only I was so tired from god only knows what that I dozed off during the short car ride to the amusement park, and Dan let me sleep for another 20 minutes or so in the parking lot. Haha. After I woke up and snapped out of my groggy state we headed back into the park.

It was really nice to hang out in the amusement park during the evening. We rode an air-conditioned tower right, drove around those dorky little gas-powered cars, then did four more roller coasters and the bumper cars before calling it a night. We dragged ourselves home happy and exhausted, got home around 11:00pm, and once my mom left we crashed hard.

As of today Daniel and I have been together for ten years and one day, and it feels amazing! I love you Daniel! ♥

  1. Glad to hear that it wasn’t gallstones but that sucks that you are in that much pain.. Hope they are able to figure out what is causing them.

  2. So glad that you do not have gallstones! Hopefully it’s not anything major that requires an easy fix.

  3. I really hope for your sake they find the source of the problem. If some time down the line, a doctor tries to convince that removing your colon could fix the problem, tell him or her to eff off and then punch him or her in the face. Trust me on this one.
