Dan and I celebrated our six year wedding anniversary by exchanging presents (PlayStation Move, a pair of shoes and a shirt for him, a gorgeous massive photo collage photo frame that I can’t wait to fill with pictures and hang up for me), and then going out to dinner. Our babysitter was… my fifteen year old brother! He has matured in so many ways over the past year, and Dan and I felt comfortable leaving him to babysit Alyssa and Ryan. We took him and the kidlets out to dinner first, then dropped them off, went over the evening and bedtime routine, said our goodbyes, and headed to a restaurant that’s five miles/twelve minutes away for dinner. After that we made a quick Target run, because I have the urge to bake autumn-themed cookies this weekend (did you know that M&Ms are available in fall-colored varieties? Well they are!!!), where I ran into a friend, Gerald, that I haven’t seen in YEARS. And by years I mean I was five months pregnant with Alyssa when I last saw him. Yes, it’s been that long. We’ve made tentative plans to get together this coming week. I can’t wait!
We got home and the kids were in bed and my brother was chilling on my laptop. I’m proud of him, and relieved too. I’m also excited. We want a babysitter, someone we trust, someone who is reliable. He wants out of my mom’s house (they’re not getting along right now :(), loves spending time with his niece and nephew (and with me, of course, his Sissy), and doesn’t mind making some spending money while doing it. It’s a win-win! He’s spending the weekend with us, but I’m only going to make use of his babysitting services for about an hour tomorrow afternoon, while I run two of the cats to a local clinic for super-cheap rabies shots (and then on Monday the same kitties will be going to the groomer for lions’ cuts, hehe). For the rest of the weekend we’re all just going to relax. With the craziness that was the entire month of September, and the craziness that is going to start on October 11th (the day before my surgery) and continue on until we wind down the end of 2011, I’m going to need as many relaxing weekends as I can get!

Don’t you mean wind down the end of 2010, instead of 2011?
I am so proud of your brother, Jenn! Even though you don’t know me that well, I’ve read your blog on and off since you announced your first pregnancy, and I’ve seen how much your brothers have gone through. I’m so glad to see them maturing and doing well!
Happy Anniversary to you and Dan!
Happy anniversary! :D
And I’m glad your brother’s been maturing and you’ve found a reliable babysitter :D
Happy Anniversary!
Well done to your brother
Happy Anniversary! It’s crazy how fast the years go by, I mean they’ve seemed to fly since I graduated high school. It’s like once you hit adulthood everything gets crazy and so much happens that it appears to be moving faster. It’s definitely nice to get those weekends where you can relax.
Hope your surgery goes smoothly. I read your other blog about your surgery and you mentioned you’d hate the catheter, why will you need one? I had my gallbladder removed back in 2007 and I don’t recall a catheter, I remember the pain after surgery and how it was hard to move around, but I don’t think I had a catheter.
Happy Anniversary…a little late! It’s nice that your brother can watch your kids for you. That’s what we all want out of our siblings, glad he’s matured enough to spend qt with his niece and nephew. I’m sure t hey loved it too!
Congrats! Happy Anniversary.
