I’m on a purely freelancing basis these days, which means not having my alarm clock go off until 8:00am on the weekdays, and not at all on the weekends/when the kids don’t have school. I abused the hell out of my poor snooze alarm this past year.
The downside… it’s all too easy to slip back into the habit of staying up super late and then not wanting to crawl out of bed until after 9! Not that 9 is late, but after nearly a year of getting up no later than 7:45am every single morning (often on the weekends, too), it feels like it is. But man, is it nice. Like right now, it’s 11:30pm, and my only thought related to going to bed is, “Hmm, I probably should go to bed with Dan so that he’ll help me fold laundry!”
I put up a new layout for Jenn.nu today, which you can plainly see.
I had the header image idea in mind for well over a week, but with Christmas and such, well, obviously I didn’t have the time to do anything until this week.
Tomorrow is my brother’s thirteenth birthday. He is spending the night, which he is indifferent to (he’s a homebody, but he does enjoy spending time with us and playing with Ryan; he himself is developmentally more like a seven or eight year old), but is quite happy about the prospect of us celebrating his birthday tomorrow. My mom does not have the money to celebrate his birthday until after the third, so I called him up yesterday and gave him a choice — do a little mini party on his actual birthday, which means I won’t be celebrating with him next week, or wait. He chose to have a mini party on his birthday. Yay.
I’m going to run out tomorrow morning to pick up stuff for his birthday dinner (homemade chocolate chip pancakes with three different kinds of chocolate chips in them, sausage & egg McMuffins, sausage, and scrambled eggs), and to pick up a last-minute birthday present (true to form this year, I had one of his birthday presents put away since last spring, and the other — a game — I pre-ordered in early November and picked up two weeks ago).
It snowed on Sunday and into Monday. While it was more than the “nothing to worry about!” forecast we had for days beforehand, it was definitely less than what Philly and other areas got slammed with. We escaped relatively unscathed — just a few messy, powdery inches. Alyssa and Ryan wanted to play in it yesterday, but with the temperature barely hitting 30° and the wind howling loud and strong enough to rattle windows, I said No Fucking Way (in my head, anyway; I phrased it nicely for them). So we went out today instead, since it was sunny and closer to 34°, and the wind wasn’t nearly as bad.
I can’t believe that 2010 is just days away from ending. Seriously, where the hell did this year go to? I hope that 2011 moves at a slower pace, because I definitely need the time to breathe!

Aww, I hope your brother has a great birthday! :D
I have to say, I absolutely freakin’ love the new layout. I mean I loved the last one, but I absolutely adore this one! Aha. The colour scheme is so cute, and I love the header!
I hope your brother had a wonderful birthday! That sounds like a very yummy dinner (chocolate chip pancakes are my favorite)
I love the set up and general appearance of the new layout. Perhaps with everyone switching up their layout for the new year it will inspire me to do the same finally.
The snow storm was horrific! How many inches did you get? I unfortunately made the mistake of heading to New York City Sunday and by the time I left there was easily over a foot of snow and the wind was horrible. By home we got about a foot of snow in total, 18 inches in some spots. I love the snow, but this storm was a bit excessive!
