The following is a letter and plea from Kylie, who is reaching out to me for help with getting the word out about a chance she has to fix some serious dental problems free of charge. Read through her letter and then go vote for her, or simply take my word for it that she is very much deserving of your vote!
My name is Kylie, and I’m 22 years old.
At 17, I began trying to save my teeth. I’ve had eight crowns since then, and have chipped almost all the other teeth in my mouth.
This isn’t something that has come about because of poor habits, which is probably the most frustrating part. My enamel (the white hard stuff on teeth) has been soft since I’ve gotten my adult teeth in, so my teeth just crumbled. I don’t smoke, I brush twice a day every day, and I floss. But it’s never been enough.
After thousands of dollars and many painful procedures, it’s starting to be crunch time. I need to get my teeth to the point where they’re structurally sound now, and hopefully all at once. After I graduate university (with a five-figure debt load) I will have no insurance until I get a job, and no guarantee that there won’t be another issue with my teeth that I have to take care of immediately.
As it stands, I already need a crown replaced because the root of the tooth is exposed. It makes my mouth extremely sensitive, and this at the very least will need to be repaired this year and that will probably max out my insurance dollars for the year.
Starting to see the problem?
I need help. I need a lot of help, actually, just to make sure that I have teeth for years to come. I’ve taken care of my teeth my entire life, but it hasn’t been enough. My uncle had dentures in his early 20s after immigrating to Canada, and I don’t want that future for myself. I want my denture years to be many, many away from now.
There’s a contest running that may be able to help me. First prize is a $7500 “Smile Makeover” and this would, quite literally, change my life. I’d be able to make a clean start in my adult life. My parents wouldn’t have to keep me on their insurance plan (which as I mentions isn’t an option after I graduate in April) or pay for the thousands of dollars of work out of pocket that I need; I don’t want my teeth to be their burden. It was enough as a teenager and a student.
I need this to reconstruct my teeth, not for cosmetic reasons. This will guarantee that I have a smile for many years.
Please, if any part of my story has touched you at all, click the link (http://tiny.cc/msrpu) and vote for me. It takes seconds, and there’s no need to sign up for anything. I don’t normally ask for help, but this is beyond me. I need help this time, and I hope that you’re willing.
The contest runs until February 14, and you can vote as many times as you like per day. Please, help me.
Thank you for reading.

Wow, what an amazing story. I voted, and will continue to spread the word
I voted for her. =[ I totally understand her dental issue and sympathize with her. I hope she wins! My teeth are the same way only it’s from lyme disease. Every year we max out our insurance on fillings and root canals. I currently need 5 crowns and our insurance doesn’t cover much on crowns.
I voted!!
