I worked my freakin’ ass off last week, but I didn’t get the chance to reward myself with a mellow weekend. Well, yesterday morning didn’t start off too badly, since I slept in, but I had that on-the-verge-of-getting-sick feeling Friday that turned into full blown I’m-Sick yesterday. Eh. But Dan and I had made dinner plans with his brother, K, and his brother’s girlfriend, L, a few weeks ago, so I pushed through and after doing a bit of leftover work and blogging, made the dessert I agreed to bring to dinner — an Imitation KFC chocolate chip cake. And yes, it was as good as it looked.
I’m hopelessly addicted to Words with Friends (add me: kiss-my-kitty). K and L introduced us to it, and things got really nerdy when Dan and K’s other brother, C, arrived home after work. There we were, the five of us, sharing the same breathing space, but playing games with one another ON OUR PHONES. Heh.
After we left their apartment, we stopped by the Evil Otherwise Known As Walmart (I seriously loathe that place, but there aren’t many options at 1:30am) for cold meds for me and spackle for Dan (let the painting of most of the interior walls of our house commence!). On the way home I was well and truly miserable, so I took a quadruple cocktail that consisted of Theraflu Daytime (for the nasal congestion relief), Theraflu Nighttime (for the sleepy times), Sudafed (more nasal congestion killing goodness) and two shots of Afrin 4-way (for good measure). It kicked in right about when we pulled into our driveway, so I kind of weaved into the house, shucked off my clothes, wiped the makeup off my face and fell into bed.
Sadly, I didn’t get the sleep that I really wanted and needed. I swear, there are days when I truly believe that Dan’s employees deliberately call numerous times early in the morning, because they know he’s sleeping, and as his subordinates it’s the only way they can “get back” at him for whatever imaginary infraction he’s committed against them. But in getting back at them, they get back at me. Fuckers.
I’ll be the first to admit that my husband has a real dickhead streak in him, but they should be thankful that I’m the awesome putting-out/house-cleaning/good-food-cooking wife that I am, because if I wasn’t he’d be even more of a dick at times, ya know? Translation: annoy your boss’s wife and he will be even worse to deal with, because he’s got to deal with ME.
Today was just a blur of phone calls and disrupted sleep and annoyance and cute kids and medicine and chest tightness and tissues and naps and… blah. (See? This is what I get for getting a bit gloaty over not getting sick. Intestinal bug last week, cold/pneumonia/plague/slight case of death now, and I’m due for my period tomorrow. Joy!)
Anyways… back to finishing up some work, cleaning up the DVR, and then crashing into bed. Here’s to a week that won’t be as fucking annoying and irritating and non-stop as the last one!

I’m sorry that you had a pretty stressful and crappy weekend. Weekends really should be more relaxing than weekdays. I hope you feel better! I hope you have a good week.
But your cake looks really delicious!!
Feel better. I am sick too. Boo! I love words with friends too. It is addicting!
Sorry your week sucked so hard and then you got sick. That’s lame. I feel you on the employees. Andrew’s team used to do that when they had to work on weekends (which they knew when taking the job was a requirement now and then, but Andrew was the only manager in the department that really asked his team to, then again their team did all of the important paperwork and stuff so he kind of had to). If your boss is kind of a dick, why call and piss him off? How does that help your situation? Hope you start feeling better and this week turns out better!
I hope you feel better. The cake looks great!
