My weekend needs a weekend

I have learned to crave weekends, for the simple fact that I get a breather from the hectic pace that is the work/school week. (Not that I really get a “break” from working on the weekends, but the requirements and obligations aren’t present, heh.) Tuesdays and Wednesdays in particular are kind of crazy: Tuesday nights are Dan’s bowling/going out nights, so I’m always scrambling to get an earlier dinner on the table and make sure I’m prepared to handle dinner/clean up/bedtime routines on my own. Wednesdays are Awana Club at a local church, which Alyssa enjoyed so much after my mom took her a few weeks back that I took both her and Ryan back to see how he would like it. He loves it, she loves it, so every Wednesday evening for two hours they get some God-infused playtime, while I get some nice downtime in the cafe area of the church. I’m also taking Alyssa and Ryan to church on Sundays. I’m not exactly a religious person, but I do believe in God, and I grew up going to church regularly (a Catholic one, complete with pews and genuflections and the receiving of the holy bread, but I digress), and I think it’s good for Alyssa and Ryan, and since they love it, it’s a win/win. The Sunday preschool is for 2.5 hours, so again, more downtime for me. Win/win/win!

Two weekends ago I had no weekend – Friday was spent outside at a local park, since it was almost 80° out. Saturday was spent in Philadelphia, at the Please Touch Museum. And Sunday was spent first at church, then at Chuck E. Cheese. This last weekend. Well. I don’t even know where my Saturday went. Errands? Probably. Painting-related errands, as a matter of fact (thanks to Dan and a tiny bit of help from the kids and I, our living room is now a gorgeous shade of blue/green/gray – “Secret Moss“, to be exact). Then it was Sunday, which meant church, and since I had to take my mom and brothers there (my mom overspent last month and this month and didn’t have enough for her medicine co-pay at CVS, let alone gas to get to church and back again. *eyeroll*), I wound up staying an extra hour and a half for lunch (on the bright side, that meant not having to get something together for the kids when we got home!). Later Sunday afternoon I went with Dan to the shooting range, where we met up with his brothers and Jason. Then it was back to our house, where L, Dan’s youngest brother’s girlfriend, met us for dinner — kick-ass chicken and potato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. A few episodes of Jackass and the season finale of Hell’s Kitchen Season 8 later, it was time for bed.

I don’t even know where my Monday went to. Mondays are usually crazy for me, as are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. About the only “reprieve” day I have is Thursday. Oh well.

Once again, I cannot wait until next year, when both kids will be in school full-time. I’ll be able to get so much more done during the day. I can’t wait!

  1. I’m loving the new hair color lady. I missed it when you dyed it. You should try lavender next, I think it’d suit you well. I’ve fought with myself recently on whether or not I should get active in the church community again. I believe in God, and though I am not a crazy Christian, I do enjoy believing in something. Nothing wrong with it. And honestly, even as chaotic and hypocritical as it can be sometimes, church can become a family. That’s always a nice thing to have someone behind you, even if they suck sometimes. :P Hope all is well lady friend.
