We’re getting a kitten. Her name is Athena Luna Sarah to be determined. I originally had no intentions of getting a kitten, but then, on Easter, I made the mistake of going to see my youngest sister-in-law’s cat and her five week old litter of kittens. Anyone who knows me knows I’m a sucker for kittens and puppies. Had my sister-in-law had a five week old litter of Newfoundland puppies I’d no doubt have reserved one. So anyway, the kitten Alyssa and I picked out is a light gray tabby with blue eyes (though I’m sure they’ll change to green or gold). And… it’s a girl. This’ll be our first female cat, ever. We’ve always had male cats and female dogs — it just worked out better that way in terms of personality and temperament. Alyssa is ridiculously excited. I’m excited too, though at the moment it’s kind of out-of-sight-out-of-mind as far as the kitten goes, because of everything else going on.
At this moment all of my mom’s stuff is safely in storage, while she and my brothers are here. She has no money to use for a deposit/application fee, so the application she needs to fill out and send in for the three bedroom mobile home we looked at almost two weeks ago is still sitting on the kitchen counter. Grrr. I like how she’s all, “Oh, I need to move! Oh, I have about $600 to work with!”, yet it was me that paid for the truck rental ($250) and me that would have paid for the portable storage unit rental had there been enough money left in our bank account. She paid for two U-Haul furniture/appliance dollies, furniture pads, two padlocks and the first month storage unit rental.
Last night I went out to Target and bought a bunch of groceries. I also bought a bunch of shorts for Alyssa, who suddenly sprouted from a 5T (yes, my almost-seven-year-old could wear toddler sizes until recently) to a 6/6X. And out of pity, I purchased — separately, and kept the receipt — a pair of jeans and three shirts each for my brothers, along with a 5-pack of boxers. While packing, their priorities were games and toys. They eventually packed up their clothing, but because they didn’t mark the bags or put them aside, they went into the storage unit along with everything else. And since that storage unit is exploding at the seams, there’s no way in hell it can be opened up until it’s time to move everything out of it. I told my mom that she will be reimbursing me for both the truck rental and clothing purchase ($250 for the former, $73 for the latter) come May 3rd (when she gets paid), or she and my brothers can GTFO. With no living expenses now to speak of, there’s no reason why I can’t be paid back promptly.
In non-family news, Ryan’s last day of preschool is coming up in a few weeks, and Alyssa’s last day of kindergarten is June 10th. God help me if my mom and brothers aren’t out of here by then…
Oh – I have a CT scan scheduled for next Tuesday morning. While the tech didn’t see anything out of the ordinary, my surgeon’s assistant did, because she called yesterday morning to let me know about the CT, and to emphasize that it’s very important I get it done, so we can “go from here”. Whatever/wherever here is.
Thank god it’s Friday…

SOOOOO cute! I’ll have to email you with the next litter we have =P! HAHA! Polydactyl kitten ftw!
Uber cute. Gotta love kittens <3 As for names, I vote for Stripes lol Because I am secretly a 3rd grader (shhhh).
And lots of luck with the family. Sincerely hope they are out of your hair pronto.
Awww, such a pretty kitty. I really have no idea how you’re going to handle your mom. My god… just ugh.
