Case of the Man-Plague™

Dan has been sick with a horrendous head sinus/cold bug for nearly a week now, and it’s starting to wear on all of us. Not just physically, though my brother was running a fever yesterday morning and stayed home from school; and Ryan woke me up at 3:30am with severe coughing and so we kept him home from school today; but emotionally, too. I get being sick. I get not feeling good. Between frequent occurrences of “morning” sickness with both pregnancies, my three abdominal surgeries, my surgical wisdom teeth extraction, and numerous illnesses including pneumonia in February of 2010 and bronchitis in August of 2010, my ongoing abdominal pain issues and now my broken foot, I really, truly DO understand not feeling good or being in pain, and not having as much tolerance or patience for life’s everyday annoyances.

But at the same time, not feeling well is not a free pass to act miserable and snarly and nasty 24/7, and often with little or no provocation. Dear fucking god. I love my husband, but right now I just want to drug him into a coma until he’s better, because walking around on eggshells and trying to keep my brother and the kids quiet and out of his face and in perfect conduct is just mentally wearing on me. My mood is being affected by this, which doubly sucks, because Alyssa, Ryan and my brother deserve at least one parent who isn’t biting their heads off at every other turn.

  1. I swear I think it’s the fact your a women. We have such a better way of dealing with pain. Men are babies when they get sick. Well, that’s just my thought. We are just stronger. lol ;)

  2. Have you seen the ManStroke Woman skit, “Man Cold”? It seems strangely fitting here.
