Halloween is tomorrow, despite the fact that it certainly doesn’t look like Halloween, what with there being several inches of wet snow on the ground (though I believe a lot of it is melting, thank god!). For once our lame little town is actually allowing Trick Or Treat to take place on the 31st, which is a total shocker. Usually it’s on the 28th or 29th, so when the 31st does roll around it’s just another day.
Speaking of rolling around, unless I can find a wheelchair to rent or borrow, I won’t be able to go with Dan and the kids for Trick Or Treat tomorrow night.
I know from hobbling around stores that there is just no way I can manage to walk several blocks. The other, for instance, we went to a small hardware store that didn’t have any type of wheelchairs, and just walking up and down four or five aisles and then back to the front of the store had my right foot throbbing, and my left hip aching from having to compensate for the height/angle the walking cast on my right foot forces that leg to be at.
And speaking of my foot, no, it is not healing, not at all. It is not any better than when it first broke sometime around the 25th or 26th of September. Of course, the fact that this walking cast does not take all of the weight/pressure off of my foot probably has a lot to do with that. In all honesty, aside from not driving, and trying to use wheelchairs in stores (I’m building up these arm muscles, yo!1), nothing has really changed. I’d say my housework load has decreased by, oh, maybe 2%? It’s disappointing, really. I know that Dan works hard too, and that my brother has never been made to really do much of anything other than go to school (and even that wasn’t consistent), but still. Compassion? Consideration? Understanding? If nothing else, I’d even take a selfish desire to get me out of this walking cast sooner so that our lives can return to normal? I had an unpleasant taste of what it’s like to navigate snow and ice covered steps in this walking cast yesterday, when I took the trash out: I fucking FELL. Fortunately, it was on the last step, so I didn’t fall far. But still, it was unpleasant. And the idea of having this cast on for god knows how long — I’ve read stories of it taking anywhere from 4 weeks to 4 months for a fifth metatarsal stress fracture to heal — is not sitting well with me. I do not want to be hobbling around for Thanksgiving (on the bright side, if I can snag a wheelchair, Black Friday shopping might be a bit easier in terms that I could more easily clear a path, heh) let alone Christmas!
But back to Halloween. Here are my snazzy Halloween nails (brought to you by ORLY’s Orange Punch, Goth, and Charged Up):
And our Halloween costumes:
Oh, and check out our pumpkin:
- I refuse to use motorized wheelchairs unless there are no other options. I leave them for the grannies! ↩

The kids are so cute! Love it! I can not believe that you are still doing everything you were doing before! How will you heal?!
I’m sorry you probably won’t be able to go trick or treating. I hope you will be able to find a wheelchair to borrow or something. There used to be a place where you could rent a wheelchair or crutches by us and then return them – maybe it’s too late to look into that, though. Plus, with all the work you do maybe it will be nice to have some time to yourself while they go out trick or treating. Plus you can maybe hand out candy anyway. That can still be fun sometimes.
I love all your costumes!

Do you have a doctor following your foot? Wait, that doesn’t sound right. You know what I mean? Is there a point that, maybe, there’s something else that needs to be done? Sounds painful. You have my sympathies.
Everyone looks good in their costumes, though! Happy Halloween. LOL at Dan, that’s awesome.

I am so sorry to hear that. You need some days of rest of not moving that foot. Keep an eye on your foot. I hope your able to get a wheelchair soon!! If you can’t find one or rent one, check out thrift stores for one.

Sorry you won’t be able to go trick or treating with Dan and kids if you can’t find a wheelchair.
I hope you can find one! Yeah, those fractures are a real bitch to get healed up. But the doctor should be looking at more options – such as crutches so you aren’t putting weight on your foot – if you aren’t healing.
All the costumes are awesome.
And I love the nail polishes!
