One of my incisions opened up. I have four incisions this time around, all in completely new areas, of course (four laparoscopic surgeries = a stomach that has its very own constellation if you were to take the time to draw lines from one incision scar to another). And of course the incision that opened up, from edge to edge, is the biggest one, which is an inch, if not a little longer, in length. To be fair, I had to take the surgical tape off the incisions two days after surgery due to the stupid operating team using the very tape I’m allergic to (and ranted and raved about, multiple times, to every single medical staff person I encountered the morning of my surgery). But I kept the incisions covered with traditional adhesive bandages for two days after that. And after my last two surgeries I removed the surgical tape 1-2 days after surgery (for the same reason – allergic reaction), and never had this issue.
Aside from pretty much going back to my “normal” everyday duties as a wife & mother as of yesterday afternoon, I don’t know what else could have caused this. I’m not wearing clothing that would irritate the incisions, I’ve left the scabs alone, I’m careful not to get the incisions wet when I shower, and I always carefully pat them dry after showering. Speaking of showering, I think I’ll skip mine tonight, because the one edge of the opened incision goes a little deep, so I want to avoid getting soap or water or contaminants in it. Now I’m going to wake up tomorrow morning feeling like a skank.

I’m not sure what it is, but I have to take a shower in the morning. Even if I take one at night I still wake up feeling like a skank.

I’m another “shower every morning” maniac… your post reminded me of when I dislocated my kneecap a few years ago, and had a full length leg brace on.Having a shower was a nightmare…
