My husband’s name is Daniel. We met in July of 2000, when we were working together as closers at a local Burger King. I had just broken up with my boyfriend of ten months when I started (seriously, I broke up with him THAT MORNING, and started work THAT EVENING), so I didn’t notice him right away. But I did a week or so later, when he popped into the break room, saw me and introduced himself. That evening we were talking to each other while we were working, and pretty soon I was checking the work schedule and feeling disappointed if he didn’t work on a day that I did.
We started flirting with one another as July came to a close, and by the second week of August I knew I really liked him (and as I obviously later found out, he liked me too!). At that point he was giving me rides home from work, and we were talking to one another on the phone as well as online, but neither of us had ventured forward to confess our feelings for one another. On August 13th, 2000, I sent Daniel a very long email that could be summed up with one sentence: I like you, let’s go out. He wrote back a one sentence email that basically summed up to: too much to discuss now, we’ll talk later!
Well, later that night FINALLY rolled around, Daniel got online, and we talked for many hours. He also asked me out on our first date, set for the following Wednesday (August 16th) — a trip to Six Flags Great Adventure, an amusement park that is in New Jersey. We shared our first kiss that night. Dan made a move to kiss me, chickened out and hugged me instead. I then took the reins and kissed him. ;)
The following Tuesday we went out to Dorney Park, using tickets we had won with a few other employees at a company picnic. Sadly, the very next day, Wednesday, Daniel left for his first year of college in Pittsburgh, so we said our goodbyes after we came home from Dorney Park.
On August 23rd, 2001, Daniel proposed to me, and I accepted. ♥
From August 23rd, 2000 until May of 2002 our relationship was primarily long distance. Daniel came home for weekend breaks in September, week long breaks in November, December and March, and three month long breaks that spanned from mid-May until mid-August. During the fall of 2001 and winter of 2002, I made several trips to Pittsburgh via Greyhound bus and train to stay with him, for three to five days each time. We cherished those times, especially since we weren’t restricted by work schedules and our families.
In August of 2002, Daniel once again returned to Pittsburgh, to start his third year of college. Only this time, I went with him.
We lived together in an efficiency apartment in Pittsburgh until December of 2003, when various circumstances forced us to reevaluated our situation. We determined it would be best to move back home to be near our families, and so we did.
I became pregnant with Alyssa in January of 2004. Daniel and I stayed busy with working and saving as much as possible, and that August rented a small two bedroom house. We wanted to be married before having children, and so we moved up our wedding from being another year or two away to that fall. We married on October 1st, 2004, and our daughter was born on the 27th of that month. Since then we have moved three times, purchased two cars, and had a second child, our son, on July 26th, 2006. We have also celebrated three wedding anniversaries, and will be celebrating a fourth year of marriage on October 1st, 2008.
I don’t know where I would be in life without Daniel at my side, but I know I wouldn’t be as happy as I am. From the very beginning my husband has been nothing but sweet, caring, loyal and true to me. I call him my white bread, because he is so incredibly wholesome. He is everything I could want in a man, and then some. He makes me so incredibly happy. There are days when the intensity of my love for him and the life we have built and created together brings tears to my eyes. Daniel, I love you SO much!
Psst… Daniel has a blog, so if my ramblings aren’t quite enough to whet your appetite, be sure to check out totallypwnd.net.
