Work last night was easy as :birthday: cake (I don’t like pie. :P). I  Sunday nights. We seem to almost always have at least three closers, and the store is dead from about 7:30pm on. So, it was no surprise when we were all ready to clock out at 11:04pm. :highfive: Go closers!
I got accused of racism last night. :eyeroll: It all went down on drive-thru (as usual). I was busy taking money for a customer at my window, and getting his drinks and bagging his food. Drive-thru goes off.
Me: Hi, welcome to Burger King. I’ll be with you in one moment.
Customer: Hi I’ll—
At this point what they were saying was cut off for me, because I hit the standby (aka mute) button and headed back to finish bagging food.
I come back about a minute and a half later, only to find that they’re gone. So, I sigh, waiting for the irate customer to come vrooming up to my window. Lo and behold, five seconds later, there she is.
Me: *opening drive-thru window* Hi…?
Customer: Did you get all that?
Me: All of what?
Customer: My order!
Me: No ma’am, I’m sorry, I didn’t. I had asked you to hold while I finished another order.
Customer: Oh… okay well I’ll take a cheeseburger and a whopper jr. cheese only pickle and ketchup (which is essentially a cheeseburger, but $0.59 more.)
So, I ring up the order, take her money, get her food, she’s gone, all is well… Or so I think…
About five minutes later this broad is back at my window.
Me: *opening drive-thru window* Can I help you…?
Customer: *practically throws a sandwich at me* I didn’t want no cheese!
Me: *catches sandwich* Okay, I’m very sorry about that. I’ll have a new sandwich made for you.
I head over to Mimi (food person for the night), rolling my eyes the whole time, and relay what the woman said. We both were disgusted because both of us, along with the two other employees who were in the store, heard her say “whopper jr cheese“. So, after a few hushed comments of what a dumb bitch she was, Mimi makes the new sandwich, which is essentially a hamburger ($0.89). Back to the window I go.
Customer: Oh, can I have the other sandwich too?
Me: I’m sorry, but since it was the wrong sandwich, we threw it out and then made you this one.
Customer: Fine!
Ten minutes later the phone rings. The bitch accused me of being racist because
1) I “ignored” her at drive-thru (note to all BK customers: I am equal opportunity. I’ll put anyone on hold if I’m busy!)
2) I messed up her order.
3) I wouldn’t give her the first sandwich.
4) I had an “attitude” (right…)
I took Alyssa to JCPenney this afternoon for her portaits. They came out very nicely, I think. I really can’t wait to get them back (January 27th). :bounce:
While we were waiting for Alyssa’s turn to have her portraits done, I shot a video clip of her in her stroller, doing her best to lift her head/shoulders up and forward. She’s doing really well. Check out Alyssa in motion: View (1.09mb).
:camera: Oh, and speaking of pictures…
Natale made me a fanlisting!
:sigh: Off to work I go…
I’m exhausted. I’ve been sitting here yawning  for the past half an hour, but I can’t go to bed quite yet because
1) my nails are drying
2) I’m pumping and don’t want to stop yet (three ounces so far! :bounce:)
3) I have about fifteen e-mails in my inbox that I absolutely have to reply to
4) I’m so tired that I can’t find the energy to get up out of the chair
:faint:
Tonight at work was busy busy busy. Too many customers and not enough employees. But then, what else is new? :eyeroll: We closed at 12:00am and didn’t get out until 1:00am. I know that doesn’t sound bad, but trust me, it is. We’re good, efficient closers. We know how to pre-close and how to get shit done. However, when we can’t start our pre-closing procedures around 6:00pm-7:00pm because we have no evening people (thanks a lot Dave. :doublefu: You officially suck at scheduling.), everything goes all to hell. So that’s why it took us an hour to close and get out of there rather than fifteen-twenty minutes. Damn.
Oh well, extra money on my next paycheck. :cha-ching: When I’m ready to rip my hair out in frustration or break down in a corner somewhere, I keep telling myself that over and over. It has a nice, calming effect. :haha:
You know, I feel really bad for the one training manager at our store (FYI, our store trains all of the new managers because we are the newest store with the newest equipment), Ben. He’s very nice, proficient, yadda yadda yadda. However, he has some sort of physical handicap… he walks a bit “weird”. Also, while he has full use of both of his hands, they’re shaped/positioned a bit differently, so doing tedious hands-on tasks takes him a bit longer. Duh. I sound so stupid and ignorant, because I can’t think of the term for his handiap. MS? CP?
Anyway… I’m mentioning this because it is relevant to what I’m about to bitch about:
Herb, the manager who trains new managers, is a real jackass. He’s moodier than any PMSing woman I’ve ever come across, including my mother and myself. He’s very two faced and is quick and intense with his mood swings. (In case you can’t tell, I don’t like him very much. The main reason I don’t like him is because he doesn’t like me, and I’ve never been able to figure out why.)
So anyway… Marie (another manager) was telling me, and I noticed myself, that Herb likes to give Ben a hard time. He’ll deliberately load him up with different tasks, give him lots of change to sort through, drawers to count, paperwork to fill out, etc., and then bitch and nag and scold when he doesn’t get it done quickly enough (because of his hands).
Dave (my favorite scheduler :eyeroll:) mocks the way Ben walks… he’ll follow behind him mocking his walk. :wtf: Shit like that makes me really, really angry.
Poor Ben. I just want to go up to him and hug  him and tell him that I really like him, and that I wish him well as a manager, and that I think it’s shitty of Herb and Dave (and countless other people Ben has encountered in his life, I’m sure) to treat him that way, and that I don’t look down on him or think any differently of him because of his handicap.
But I know that doing such a thing would be awkward, uncomfortable and embarassing for Ben (and probably for myself, to a certain extent), so I’m refraining from doing so. Instead, I’m just very friendly and chatty with him.
