But thank you for the birthday wishes just the same. I’m not really expecting anything for my birthday (my mom hasn’t done much of anything since I turned eighteen, and God knows what Dan will think of, if anything), so the wishes from you guys are very nice and very appreciated.

And now onto photos from the birthday gift I gave myself, because I’m so in love with this camera and the photos it takes!

Alyssa puts shapes in the shape sorter. Ryan tries to eat the shapes and the shape sorter.

You know what I think? Today’s credit industry is in desperate need of revision. Credit companies are so caught up with the idea of getting as much money out of people that they do whatever they can to bleed dry the people they are in the process of loaning or are currently loaning too, rather than getting together and realizing that if they were more lenient about things – such has credit history – that they may make more money in the long run.

Think of the main reasons for bad credit. Bounced checks, missed payments, overspending… nothing malicious there, just honest (usually) mistakes. Credit companies should be more forgiving. Instead, they’d rather wring the wallets of the people who can least afford it in the first place – the ones who bounced checks because they didn’t have enough money, missed payments because they paid other bills instead, etc. They’ll make these people jump through hoops for bad credit loans, require a much higher down payment, hit them with higher annual fees, and jack up the interest as much as legally allowed. All the while telling people, “Oh, you have bad credit? No problem. We’ll help you!” Help? Help? I consider that to be more of a hindrance than help. It’s sickening. And it’s no wonder that so many people struggle with debt, and that so many give up and file bankruptcy, lose their house to foreclosure, etc.

Thoughts?

Learning disorders, such as dyslexia, are more common than I first realized. According to Wikipedia, most researchers agree that an estimated five to nine percent of school-aged children have dyslexia. However, dyslexia is not just about reversing letters and numbers. Nor is it a disorder that causes the affected person to view letters, numbers and other things backwards or upside down. Dyslexia impacts reading and writing abilities (and sometimes processing spoken language and other, non-language difficulties).

The good news is that dyslexia can be overcome, and there are programs and groups that offer Free Help for Dyslexia. Children and even adults struggling with dyslexia can use different methods and tools to do the best they can. dyslexiadecoded.com is a site that offers people afflicted with dyslexia the chance to overcome their problem with a free reading program. This program consists of several courses that are made up of various types of reading and reading exercises. Note that while these courses are free and aimed towards students and even adults that have reading difficulties, the courses are not easy, and people may need several weeks or even several months before they notice an improvement.

Press release is as follows:

Dyslexia? Now there is Free Help

Now there is free online help for people who have dyslexia or simply did not learn to read well while going to school. It is a click-‘n-learn program. Students and adults may learn decoding, basic reading skills, and advanced reading skills all with the click of a mouse.

The program is called ReadingBySix. It provides a systematic approach to helping people defeat dyslexia and related reading problems. You will notice measurable progress from week to week provided participants are active in their studies and do their assignments. The online courses are virtually free when you give a small donation. If you choose not to donate, they are completely free.

Dyslexia is a distinct learning disability characterized by difficulties in decoding individual words. These difficulties may not show up in other cognitive and academic abilities. Dyslexia results from the confusion caused by the brain's inability to associate abstract symbols with abstract ideas. This includes associating letters and words with the sounds they represent. The key to defeating dyslexia is learning to decode English sounds.

You are invited to review the website and take a few of the courses for practice and learn how the program works. Then use it to teach your children or students to read. It can be used for preschool, home school, grade school, or high school. Students, adults, and children can use it. It teaches reading 100% of the time and it's all electronic. If you know of people who need help, please tell them about ReadingBySix: http://www.dyslexiadecoded.com/

PayPerPost rocks my socks, and for more than one reason. The biggest of course would be the money I am paid from them every single day to blog about products and services. But PPP has some cool stuff too, such as different contests and opps that feature actual prizes. Just last week I snagged an opportunity (this one) that offered me a choice of a themed crib bedding set (valued at $180) and a diaper bag (valued at $30). Despite the lower value, I opted for the diaper bag, as we already have a theme for Ryan’s bedroom (Classic Pooh).

Now PPP is taking things a step further and offering bloggers the ability to freelance a bit more, and advertisers the ability to offer individual bloggers the chance to do posts for them. This new feature is called PPP Direct, and is very easy to understand and work with. Bloggers who are interested in accepting individual offers from advertisers place a special badge on their blogs. This badge, which can be fully customized to integrate with the blogger’s blog, tells potential advertisers that the blogger is hiring themselves out for a specified amount of money per opportunity (the blogger decides how much). If an advertiser decides to hire the blogger, both the advertiser and the blogger communicate and complete the transaction at PayPerPost, who acts as the escrow. This eliminates any problems and miscommunication, and ensures that both sides are satisfied.

The best part? Rather than losing 50% or more to overhead fees, PPP Direct charges a mere 10% fee, 5% of which goes to cover Paypal and credit card processing fees.

For more details, check out the very informative video PPP posted, found here.

Payday Cash Advance Loans are a touchy subject in the financial industry. On one hand, they’re handy, convenient and a lifesaver (not literally, obviously) because they are easy to obtain and the cash is put into your bank account relatively quickly (in my experience we walked out with the cash, or if we applied online we had the money in our account the next day).

But on the other hand, they are a detriment to the very people that wind up needing them – people who do not have much in the way of savings (because if they did, why would they be opting for a loan?), because of the associated cost. In my experiences, I was paying 20% interest. That rate didn’t change if I borrowed $100 or $500 – either way I was paying $20 per $100. And if I wanted to extend the loan, I had to pay an extension fee that was typically 10% – 20% of the entire loan. Talk about expensive!
But, as they say, you do pay for convenience. And a payday loan is a convenience. As the article on the application process points out, in exchange for paying such high fees for the loan, the money is almost always made available to you within minutes, or at the most 24 hours. And when it comes to the reason why most people take out payday loans, time is of the essence!

What are your thoughts?
